On the web, people already clarify Ashley Santos is not the one. (even in BY men college basketball board has the name and photo of Tyler, his wife and the player already)

Correct Santos is not the woman in question.....

As for DeMoss.... don't think she will end up with the job, only because I do not think she wants to be a head coach..... that is why she left KY.... didn't like the position.... could be different on account of La Tech being her alma mater.... but I bet that no she will not take it if offered

Correct Santos is not the woman in question..... The involved woman cited from all news reports is the other transfer from Marquette..... the blond woman..... as for pregnancy.... it has been reported by some, but I am just an outsider... with no inside information.

Agreed re DeMoss. She stated clearly in an interview that she accepted the AC position at Tech out of loyalty to Pat, as she saw it has the best way to honor and perpetuate Pat's legacy. With Tyler gone, so goes her stated motive for coaching there.

Yes, Plebe agree so much..... and in this whole bloody mess, one has to feel sorry for Pat..... I hate hate hate how she did her best to dismantle our program some years back, but I have great compassion for anyone with her medical situation, and then to be pulled through the media mud with this grand scandal with lascivious byline..... don't wish that on anyone.

I seem to remember that there was more to the public story when DeMoss left Ky. I would think La Tech would want to start with a clean slate when they hire their next coach.

Mickie DeMoss had to have known what was going on or at least should have. If I'm LA Tech I clean house and get a new coaching staff.

We had a similar situation occur in my town and the kids on the team knew something was amiss for a long time.

She is only the interim coach. They are making sure they will not make the same mistake again, so they will take their time. The AD is under fire.

DeMoss when she left KY basically said she didn't want to be a head coach - she probably would have retired but when Tyler got that job and asked her she felt she owed it to Pat to help. I doubt she stays longer than necessary to keep the program together until a new hire can be made.

Lots of stuff happens in even very tight communities that goes unnoticed by others - that is especially true when the individuals involved are doing something that no one would approve of, would create a scandal if discovered, and in general would be hard to believe the magnitude of stupidity (evil, venality, whatever) involved. You hear it all the time 'I knew something was different, but I never suspected ....' 'I just can't believe ______, it(they) seemed so normal'

This is terribly private situation that is being trashed publicly--I have empathy for everyone whose name is being tossed around. even Tyler Summitt. I have no respect, only disgust, for those that prey or get involved with those in their charged.
But I ask: Would this story be so widely pressed if the Coaches name was Harry Berry???(made up name).

It would be a story no matter who the coach was. Whenever a head coach resigns amid scandal, the media is all over it. Look at the FIU story. The fact that this was Pat Summitt's son certainly amplified the media splash, just as his hiring two years ago was far more newsworthy than any ol' hiring.

The publicity about this story is warranted. Having relations with a player is a serious breach of trust. People should discuss it and Tyler deserves the scrutiny that goes with it. His job was to coach and teach young women not develop a dating pool for him. I hope he got good college degree because he ma never coach in college again.

I agree with you.... this is a sad situation, and not one that should be exploited to the highest degree....

On your question I think YES, it would indeed be big news even if person''s name was not Summitt..... and I say that because the story line would include the fact that coach got hired at age 23!!!! Got the keys to the program..... That is very unusual. Now of course the fact that name was notable added to the tornado.

No sympathy for a school that selects 23 year old inexperienced Tyler Summitt as the HC.
Yes, the name Summitt is important here. It did not pass the smell test.

When the two main actors in this are both public figures, it is no longer a private matter, and when the organization they are connected with is also a very public entity with a public following and taxpayer funding it is no longer a private matter.

The transgressions are 'intimate' the actors are public figures. It seems that people are very much respecting the privacy of Tyler's wife who is not a public figure and not connected with the organization. And generally the student athletes who society feels deserve a certain amount of privacy as 'bystander' to the drama have been kept more in the background as well.

So was his his very young age. But the megaphone is the Summitt name without question.

It would if it was Halle Berry.

I don't think this statement is necessarily true...
Probably none of us will know the true story--and maybe we have no right to know the truth/details. Those in Tylers charge, for the most part are kids, yea, I know they are 18 to 22 --but it's is widely known and discussed that the mental growth of young adults continues towards age 30--and too it is reported; until that time some judgement calls for the age group are suspect. Don't kill the messenger--do the research. When I was 18 I knew so much and my father knew nothing--at age 30 I was amazed what he learned in 12 years!!

This story just gets sadder (and creepier) as the details come out.....

The "inappropriate" relationship....... then the pregnancy rumor, then one of the Marquette transfers feels she has to clear her name by posting picture of her, in her lifted shirt, showing flat abs.....

and now the allegation by virtually the whole rest of the team to the effect that the woman Tyler had affair with was treated with favoritism..... not held to the standard as the rest of the team was.....

that is ultimately sad..... if Tyler wanted to be a jerk.... OK.... the young woman, whatever her part in this.... OK, but to affect the entire rest of the team adverse.y... to the point they had to call for a meeting...

It is very sad....

Two Consenting Adults.

Nope. Very complicated and insidious power dynamic at play here (Unless, of course, you're ok with a professor sleeping with a student... oh a teacher sleeping with an 17year old).

After the LSU/Pokey Chatman todo, every and any NCAA institution should have made sure they had a clear "professional behavior' policy. I wrote an epically long piece for the WBCA in 2005 when there seemed to be a flurry of sexual misconduct by coaches. You may recall the Seattle piece "Coaches who Prey" which outlined, in pretty horrifying detail, how high school coaches were shuffled from school to school to avoid publicity. Not unlike a religious institution we all know.

Policies won't prevent stupidity and line crossing, but at least folks have some recourse...

After reading this thread and the other threads, I am a little confused about who was involved with T. Summitt. It seems that Pumroy and Santos were both mentioned. Was he involved with both and got Pumroy pregnant? Or, was it just Pumroy? Or, is the pregnancy a myth?

My wife has very definite opinions about where T. Summitt's brain is located that I cannot post here. But, as a good husband, my wife is always right.

The sad thing is, TJI, there are a lot of folks who are OK with a professor sleeping with a student. I remember reading a letter in "The Chronicle of Higher Education", maybe 20 years ago or so, from a UVA professor defending the practice, explaining how healthy and educational it was for the student. While I was working at Connecticut College in New London about the same era, a policy forbidding such relationships was shot down by the faculty. Mind you, that had more to do with a power struggle between the college president and the faculty than anything, but, still..
