Well deserved for the most dominant and humble pitcher in MLB. What he doesn't deserve is to be on the team I love more than any other, the NY Mets. No pitcher of his caliber deserves that hitless mess. I hope this guy gets traded to a real team soon. THAT he deserves as well.

The Mets would do well by trading
deGrom in the near future. His value will never be higher than it is now. They are unlikely (though still a possibility) to re-sign him when he's eligible for free agency. A trade could also fill some the multiple needs the team has.
What will he be worth next year if he duplicates his 2017 season (3.53 era, while still good, it pales in comparasion to 2018) in 2019 ?
Sell high, buy low.

I doubt there was much reasoning at all. Maffei doesn't follow baseball very closely and has made some bizarre votes before. This year he covered exactly zero MLB games. Was mostly assigned to high school contests. No way he should be voting, and hopefully this was his last vote.
