I have so much excitement and so many thoughts in my head this morning that I feel like I have to write something. I guess let me talk about dynasties and the 2010s.

No WBB program has been program of the decade twice in a row. Tennessee was a top 2 program three decades in a row, but UConn is going to close out the first 20 years this century having left the mother of all dynasties in its wake.

There have been many dynasties: UCLA in the 1960s and 70s, the Yankees in various eras, the 49ers and Lakers of the 1980s, etc. But UConn has already won nine championships in 20 years, including eight in the 2000s and 2010s. There have been 70-game win streaks and 90-game win streaks. There have been four successful defenses of a national championship (2003, 2004, 2010, 2014). That's definitely a dynasty.

This decade has five seasons left. The amazing recruiting class of 2012 will play two years of those five. Meanwhile, the class of 2015 will play the last four years of those five. Also meanwhile, the class of 2015 is shaping up to be incredible. How many national championships will UConn win before 2020? La Tech had three in the 1980s (counting the AIAW championship). Tennessee had four in the 1990s. UConn had five in the 2000s. The Huskies a) have already won three in the 2010s, b) are favored to win a fourth in 2015, and c) are going to close out the decade on the strength of tremendous year-over-year recruiting. There will be two more seasons of super-elite PG Moriah Jefferson and all-everything superstar Breanna Stewart.

Ironically, there's precedent that UConn's WCBB program has done things that are unprecedented. The unprecedented is coming again. Enjoy the ride- every second of it.

The golden age of UConn Women's basketball is now and we can enjoy the count down to title # 10 and consecutive victory # 91 in early 2015. A good poll question... In the next 3 years, which team is more likely to lose the game that stops this latest streak? And how many games will this streak reach? I do plan to enjoy every minute of this fantastic ride...

I will have to see the 2016 recruits to see if it will be sometime this decade. I'll have to get back to you next year. ;)

Well said Alex. It's impossible to not be giddy if you are a UCONN fan. If you are a fan of any other team, all you can do is shake your head. If you are an orange fan, you have taken to throwing up in your lap at the news of UCONN's 2014 and 2015 classes, and we aren't done yet.

And to really understand UCONN's decades of dominance, and the probability of it continuing, it's not only about the #1 or #2 players in the nation UCONN is adding. It's about kids who are legitimately top 5 in their respective classes to go along with others who are #1 or #2. It's ridiculous, insane, and the greatest time in our storied history to be a Husky fan...

KML (2/1)
Jefferson (2), Stewart (1)
Tuck
Nurse, Williams (although to be fair, while neither in the top 5, I believe that Nurse IS that good, and Williams would be were she healthy the past 2 years)
Samuelson (2/1), Collier

ND has been terrific in recruiting landing kids like Loyd, Reimer, and Turner. All 3 of those kids are top 5 and currently on their roster.
Tennessee - Burdick, Massengale, Graves, and Russell are all top 5, but Burdick has not played like a top 5 kid in any season and this is her last season coming up.
Duke - Williams, Jones, Greenwell
South Carolina - Wilson, White
Texas - up and coming with Atkins, Hosey and Higgs
Kentucky - Harper and Rice (altho Rice wasn't a top 5 kid, she was so good in the all star game I think she may be a top 5 player)
UCLA - Canada and Drummer
OSU - Mitchell

ND and Tennessee seem to have the most talent going forward for the next few years, depending on what SC does in 2015, as there are still some top kids left on the board. But even if Tennessee lands Deshields and Cooper, they will still be behind UCONN. Even if ND lands Durr the same goes for them. UCONN wins when they don't have as much talent on paper, and they almost always when when they do, or when they have more.

That's exactly how I would look at it. Without getting too carried away, it's possible that some of the programs you listed will have enough talent to have a starting group that can give UConn a run. If one can assume that there are no major injuries and no transfers out of any of the programs in the next 3-4 years (now that would be unprecedented for every single program) it's hard to see where any team will have a bench like ours even if the group as a whole only gets to 80% of it's potential. When you have a bunch of bench players who are better then a lot of the other team's starters, it doesn't take too much to figure out which team can run the others ragged.

Thing is that the teams having the talent to compete, also, have to learn how to compete and to compete for 40 minutes at full speed. UCONN is better conditioned than any other team and will have the luxury of bringing off the bench even more depth ready to push others to their breaking point. It will be brutal playing against a team with maximal talent that never takes a end off, offensively or defensively.
