all PP did was accelerate the ending. Uconn football and athletics died when they were not invited to the ACC or B1G. There is little hope that those invites are coming anytime soon, so its just going to get worse and worse. Hire a new coach, fine, but it doesn't really matter. that is the reason why PP is still the coach this year. It doesn't matter. why spend money on a football coach and have to buy out this guy when football itself doesn't generate any interest in the school or make money? I'm sure that was the final part of the decision making process when PP was evaluated after last year:
"if we hire a coach, will that change the economics or dynamics of where we stand as a football program?"
"no, not at all."
"then lets not spend $2M buying him out and invest it in the basketball programs or something else"
now I'm sure that analysis did not include the chance that the program would become a national joke after getting manhandled at home versus Towson St. But while it embarrasses the school, very few people in CT really care and very few potential students are not going to change their minds about coming to Uconn because the football program is a joke. I doubt many kids ever said "I want to go to uconn to go to the football games." It may hurt with donations and ticket sales, though. In fact, I am sure it will.
I don't blame Herbst for Uconn's predictament. she was dealt a bad hand and did not manuever very well. If she can get the school into a P5 conference now, she is second to Ella Grasso in terms of women in CT's history. Warde is a non-factor. He is not good publicly and has done nothing to ilicit any trust. what he does from here is somewhat meaningless
