Most of the discussion is on Offense. Love to hear thoughts and observations on the D.

Too many blown coverages to start ended up costing the game. They definitely started improving before halftime and had a pretty good second half. Brock was able to call plays that got very good pressure on the QB. The pick six was entirely because 2 guys got to the QB. Duke probably has more size than anyone else left on the schedule except Cuse so I could see the defense keep improving. Light years ahead of the late 2010s defense that may have been literally the worst defense statistically in FBS history.

I thought the tackling was 100% better yesterday and they played with intensity. There are always several plays in every game at every level you can complain about, but I thought the defense was good yesterday.

This especially. The long TD to Pancol and the third-down play to Brown on the first drive were huge and led to their two first half scores, in both cases they had the cornerback beaten by a couple of steps, way too easy.. take away those two plays and Duke never has the momentum to build the initial 17-0 lead.

Major forward progress. Gave up some big plays, but in general outperformed my expectations. Duke was completely stalled out for pretty much the entire 3rd quarter when we started making our comeback. Tackling isn't great, but looked much better

If you expected to win the game, you'll have plenty of things to pick apart where the defense failed. But if you're content with a 5 point loss as a 17 point underdog like me, you'll see a lot of positive things, and if they can keep this level of play all year, a real path to win games if the offense improves over time

Better. There was actually same pressure o the QB after the first quarter.

Opponent only need to throw it over 7 yards. They can mess around with running the ball or other pass plays but when they need keep a drive going or score they only need to throw it down the sideline. Any QB/WR combo that can execute that throw will torch our secondary at will.

The tackling was much improved over MD, including some open field one on ones that we haven't often seen around these parts in a long time. We even had some mild pressure on their QB that did affect a few throws.

Receivers getting behind the safeties needs to be corrected.

As others have mentioned, the defense has improved but need to fix the blown coverages. There were also a few cases that were not exploited by Duke since Moore and his receivers were not on the same page.

Tackling has improved but unfortunately some missed tackles late in the game allowed Duke two first downs which iced their victory. All we needed was one stop for a last attempt for a win.

I wonder if our secondary is bad at coverage because they don't get to practice against real 21st century passing offenses....

The intensity from the defense has been pretty good all year. Tons of guys fly to the ball and quite a few guys play violently. The tackling was much improved. It makes you wonder what they worked on that they didn't in camp.

I think some teams we play have a good chance to light us up if we can't get pressure. But that's basically how football is nowadays. Any game you watch with competent offenses scheme guys wide open and hit on some big plays. It just is what it is.
