Defense

At 7:55 Depaul took the lead 49-47.
From that point Depaul shot 50% from the field over the last 8 min!! and lost!!
Because they only had 4 shots making a layup and a dunk.
They had TEN turnovers over the last 8 minutes.
7:32 a 3 sec call
7:09 a transition travel
6:36 Whaley stripped the ball but OB
6:27 Whaley stripped the ball again to Polley
5:56 Lousy entry pass
4:52 Hard drive with lousy pass to the middle
3:16 Fumble pass for Adams breakaway try
2:53 Moore falls on his face
2:10 Bad entry pass
58.3 Fumbled catch into back court
23.1 Martin flicks the dribble from behind to Cole

Not going to win with that end of game execution

Just checked the updated stats. Whaley only credited with 8 steals this season. Seems way low. Even though some of those PnR defenses end up with slapped or deflected passes, it seems like he is closer to two steals a game than he is one steal a game.

He is doing beter in conference play with 7 steals in 5 games.

Nit picking I wish more dunks around basket after steals or drives too many bunnies being rolled of rim,,,

Whaley and Martin’s consistent energy has clearly paid dividends this season. Hurley demands effort and that attitude is contagious and that’s going to remain our edge over our opponents. Going to be scary when the talent level matches our intensity level

DePaul had nothing, especially on defense, after Paulicap fouled out. He didn't fill up the box score by any stretch and he only played 16 minutes but he is clearly the heart of their defense.

He was a force in the MAAC, and will be significant at DePaul, but seems his potential at a top 30 high major would be role player off the bench. Still, he helped keep UConn in check in the paint for 34 minutes.

Great analysis. This is the kind of defensive play that gets in opponents heads. Charlie Moore who was a preseason Big East First Team member went 4/12 shooting in both games against Uconn. He had only 4 and 3 assists in both games and had 5 turnovers last night. Clearly they took him out of his game. The announcer kept saying "Charlie Moore has got to get his game going for De Paul to get ahead in this game" but after a while he just stopped saying it when it became apparent that it wasn't going to happen. I loved it. This kind of D and 40 mins intensity is like the Uconn D of old. This is a team like huskies (pulling together) are supposed to be. Keep growing and Bouk and Akok are waiting in the wings.

Charlie was definitely taken out of his game. He had a pass just go off his finger tips for a back court and he pulled an AG and just fell to the ground while driving to the hoop.
