Our defense has been amazing to start games. Here's the opponent's scoring for the 1st quarter:

Louisville 9

FSU 13

Loyola 9

OSU 24 (but 6 in Q2)

Michigan 5

Utah 8

Xavier 9

USF 10

Cumulative score for 8 games is 202-87 in Q1.

What I find fascinating is that the team we held to the lowest points (5 points) is undoubtedly the best team we've faced and the Wolverines certainly showed it later in the game.
It is difficult to impossible to reckon with UConn if your team have never played a Geno-coached team before (ask UCLA). Credit to Michigan for righting the ship after getting hit with the initial wave of pace, ferocious D, and skill. Teams do better the second time they face the Huskies (see the miserable Mississippi upset, for example). This team is far from its ceiling; they’re going to be truly frightening when they lock in for a full game.

MI "showed it later in the game" but imo the absolute anomaly that doesn't get mentioned enough is the 4 - 4!! - points scored by UConn in the 3Q after having a 20 point lead going into the half. How did that happen? Was it due to a switch to a zone D? But wasn't a zone used before the 3Q? All of our shooters went completely cold? Completely different offensive sets being tried? Different lineup starting the 3Q? I've tried to remember but cannot find when UConn scored so few points in a quarter. Maybe someone can provide some additional info. Again, not taking anything away from MI but the complete failure of the Huskies to score has to be something that has rarely - if ever - occurred at least over the last ten years, maybe more.
