Heavy Ice predicted for our region! Snow as well. I hoped I would never have to deal with this stuff again after facing a header when another vehicle two wheeled across the line and hit us head on after hitting black ice. But the gods with their sense of humor just couldn't help themselves.

Anyways hope this make those of you in the ice box feel a little better.

Now if we could get an ice storm to hit the Husky fans in the southern California area, I would feel a little better.

Yeah pretty much sheet of ice under the couple inches of snow here in Atlanta. Accidents everywhere and people taking 7-8 hours to get home for drives hat normally take 30 minutes. I took the train and the bus and it still took me 3 hours to get home which normally takes just over an hour. Good thing I'm from the northeast and don't mind using mass transit. We'll for me it worked as I live near downtown Atlanta. I probably will work from home tomorrow. Sad thing many kids are trapped on the roads in school buses due to traffic. Many angry parents! Atlanta should have played it conservative and cancelled schools and work today for metro Atlanta. Crazy stuff!

Man, the South really has no clue how to handle snow.

Brutal day for the ATL today. Complete show. Everyone released at the same time. Google Traffic maps were all black. Saw several accidents and my tires saved me a few times. The drivers drive too slow at the wrong times so that compounds accidents. I have coworkers that left the office at 1:45 and they are still on the road.

I blame all of the hybrids and Teslas. If we had more gas guzzlers we would be wearing shorts today, dammit!

It's sad really. We have about 1-2" here in chapel hill and the whole state has basically shut down. I drive a 2wd truck and I have no problem driving past all the cars that have run off the road...something to say for learning to drive in CT i guess

I was really confused when they told me work was likely to be cancelled, and even if it wasn't to come in at my own risk...but I would have to make up hours. I might be the only one in the office tomorrow

True. It's a combination of no having equipment to prep or remove ice and snow and drivers unfamiliar with being in those conditions.

I guess this is payback for us laughing at how bad tropical storm Sandy destroyed NY/NJ.

Why didn't they cancel school? Even here in CT they seem to cancel if there is even a threat of accumulating snow now, I kind of roll my eyes about that sometimes but at least the state and towns are prepared for these events and the residents can handle it. People freak out here if there is going to be 4 inches of snow, I can't imagine what it is like in the south.

Yes, it makes no sense! They knew last night there was a 50% or greater chance of snow or ice. Just stupid of the towns in metro Atlanta knowing how bad this metro area handles snow. You even see school buses in the accidents on the roads. Many kids are spending the overnight at schools. I guess this was the little boy who cried wolf scenario happening here. Just stupid oversight by the Atlanta area.

Funny thing Atlanta added more trucks, 50 in the city, and that hasn't helped much but that is mostly due to not keeping kids and people at work home today. The trucks can't even get to the bad sections of road to salt them. What a joke!

I had to put on a light jacket this morning when I went to work - even turned on the heated seats in the car. Brutal here.

Our kids in far western Florida had Tuesday/Wednesday cancelled. Smart move as sleet and freezing rain had started by noon and by commute time it was a mess. Heavy ice accumulating and snow overnight.

Every major bridge is closed overnight.

On a good note, mid-60's and partly cloudy for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

We've had 1 day with the high under 70 in the entire month of January. Maybe around Jan. 8 it dipped to 64. That was our polar vortex.

But we do tend to get a rainy season (usually from around Feb. 18 to maybe the 19th of February or so) when highs are only in the 50s.

Live in the Greenville SC area...after living in Ct for many years it was like big whippee doo there is only half inch out there. So we head out and slid about the last 10 feet of our driveway and knew it would be some fun. Big mistake not turning around..we went out anyway and wow lots of spin outs and traffic jams. The problem is there are no plow trucks, no salt or sand so the roads were glazed over full of ice. So we come home about 11pm and it was amazing how much ice there was Ive never seen anything like it. We have an Audi all wheel drive and still was sliding everywhere and lucky to not end up in a ditch and took forever to get home. That car is awesome in bad weather, never would have thought we would have so much trouble but ice is ice so imagine all the people here not used to this weather and all the rear wheel cars too. That equals a mess.
I won't laugh anymore now when things close down here, never realized just how much those sand trucks help and you just can't drive on ice.

Had a couple of bad situations with Black Ice in CT. As I pointed out in the op, there is nothing like watching an SUV bearing down on you knowing it can't stop. Ice is definitely not something to take lightly.

Ice is a great equalizer on the road. 2wd, 4wd or AWD, they all slide equally on ice.

Only variable is driver skill. And your skill doesn't matter if the other drivers on the road don't have any skills.

Exactly...and doesn't help it's fairly hilly and curvy getting back to our place that made it much worse. Next time were staying home, not risking that crap again especially just for a pool league! like I said, I won't laugh anymore if people here are housebound for a couple days.
