Deadspin has a poll going on Twitter that asking everyone to rank the top champion of all time. We are on the clock in two brackets right now. Go Huskies!

2004 team is ranked #3 against 1989 Michigan ranked #6 (winning)
2014 team is ranked #8 against 1990 UNLV ranked #1 (losing)

2004 as a #3 is criminal.

They'd hold their own against all but 2-3 of the championship teams in this 32 year span.

Seeing UConn go against 1990 UNLV would be awesome. With Taliek, Ben, Rashad and Emeka, they wouldn't be intimidated by UNLV and UConn could match them speed for speed and athleticism.

Interesting thing would be who on UConn stops LJ?

I'd love to see Taliek and Ben go up against Greg Anthony and Anderson Hunt.

Small typo. 1998 Kansas should be 1988 Kansas. Doesn't matter. Either team gets bounced in the 1st round.

I agree. That Uconn 2004 and UNLV 1990 at their best are the two best teams of the last 30+ years. Our front court was deeper, huge and athletic. I think the difference comes down to coaching and i think we can all agree Calhoun>Tark RIP. Coach would come up with a way to deal with LJ and we win because the front court is just too deep. If they play ten times do we win all ten? Nope!

Yeah that 2004 team was great. If it wasn't for Okafor's back issues and Ben's broken nose in the middle of the season I think they only lose 2-3 games instead of 6.

I slightly disagree here. They would "hold their own" against anybody and everybody, but maybe not defeat them.

Duke is overseeded as expected.

A few observations:

My top 5 Champions of the last 30 years:

1) 1990 UNLV - Tark played a sick non-conference schedule, but weirdly lost to UCSB. History conflates this 1990 and 1991 teams. 1991 was the year they were destroying everyone until what I am convinced was a point shaving gone awry in the Final Four.

2) 1996 Kentucky - this team was sick. They could bomb from 3 and they had Antoine Walker

3) 2004 UConn Huskies

4) 2007 Florida - They lost 3 games in February as a result of what is probably boredom, because there was no question they were winning the championship that year.

5) 1999 UConn/2001 Duke - tie.

Villanova 2018 is underseeded as a 3 seed. Five NBA players, they destroyed everyone in the tournament and curb stomped Michigan in the title game.

That would be very interesting. Phil wasn't on the 2004 team. Phil would have been about 8-10 years old in 2004.
Au contraire.
I'm saying that UNLV wouldn't even get out of the first round against the 2014 Huskies.
