It's funny he calls himself a shooting guard, because he is playing the 4 next year.

I would be shocked if DHam sees time at the four. But if people had told me that Niels and Deandre would be a 5 at times this year I would have been shocked too. In the big scheme of things, the whole position argument (other than PG) is more or less meaningless. Most teams do not have prototypical 4s and 5s any more.

He would step right into Giffey's shoes but will get more touches and shots. He might be stronger than Giff when the latter was a frosh. He could be a 1-and done, happy for him. More than likely, a 2-and done.

And for the 63rd time: “I’m most definitely going to go to UConn— 100 percent,” Hamilton said after practice Wednesday afternoon at Basketball City in Manhattan. “I’m real anxious [to get out to UConn] , especially after they won that championship.”

Notice he didn't say 110 percent. Why only 100? I think we should demand an LOI and a blood sample by Tuesday or we kick him to the curb.

He is a prototypical college 3, in the mold of his namesake, Rip Hamilton (as well as Ray Allen, Jeremy Lamb, and others).

Given the options we have in the backcourt, he will not see a minute at the 2; and given his own limitations in physical strength (if DD isn't physical/tough enough, there's no way Daniel Hamilton is) he won't be playing the 4.

I am sure DD has been waiting for a 17 year old to chime in before he makes up his mind- he's a lock to come back now!

#trollharder? One of the more silly posts i've seen in a while.
his post has a lot of truth to it... there will be times where DHam is playing the 4 next year. No doubt.

Or Lubin.. or Facey... or Rhett.. or he could play Nolan/Brimah together.. all kinds of options
Agreed. I think a lot depends on how the kids develop and what kind of team they are playing. We were way "thin" - weight-wise - in the post this year, and yet Ollie drew up brilliant game plans to upend teams with much more strength (physical and talent) in the post.

I'm not sure if Samuel becomes a starter, but given how terrific he was, he'd likely be the first guard off the bench. And while I like the idea of Nolan and Brimah on the court together, I'd rather have one come off the bench.

Boat, Purvis, Hamilton, Facey, Brimah to start
Samuel, Calhoun, Lubin, Nolan first off the bench
Cassell and Tolksdorf a little further down the depth chart

I do think UCONN has a pretty good shot at a couple of 5th year senior transfer-types, and depending if they are more like Kromah or Evans would determine where on the depth chart they sit. If he gets a really strong/solid 4, I could see whoever that is starting and Facey coming off the bench.

Side note - remember how doomed everyone acted when it became clear Wolf would not be suiting up for UCONN? Look how that turned out. At this point I have ZERO worries that Ollie could challenge for a NC with a roster full of 6'5" and shorter guards...

Its dham, puvis or Tsam at the 4. Your call.
Wow. Are you serious? Not even a mention of Facey? He was a top 100 recruit and NYC player of the year. That has to count for something. Also, Ollie said multiple times he loved what he saw from Facey in practice, just couldn't get him many minutes this year with DD and Giff playing so well at the 4. In the limited minutes Facey did play he brought a lot of energy and rebounded better than pretty much anyone else on the team. His jumper also looks smooth. His defense needs a lot of work but that is something he probably worked on a lot during the year and will continue to work on during the offseason. I think if DD jumps to the NBA Facey is going to be more than ready to contribute at the 4.

I don't get why people are jumping over Nelson, it's more than conceivable that D-Ham could spend some time at the four against certain opponents, especially if Brimah becomes the type of dominant defensive player we think he'll be.

Assuming Daniels leaves, look at what we have at the four - Facey, Nolan, Lubin. Lubin's a three star recruit who may or may not contribute anything next year, Nolan has played the five almost exclusively in his time here, and Facey, while he's shown flashes, is still a question mark.

I'm not saying the kid is going to start at the four and play 25 minutes there, but Ollie definitely seems to be a guy plugged in to the new-age, position-less lineups school of thought.

I love how he knows he needs to get stronger. I bet he puts in the work over the summer and gets much bigger

Put one of TSam, DHam or Purvis on the bench then. It would be great if Facey made the jump to being a quality starter. That said, when given the choice in the Tournament, Ollie went very small with TSam rather than playing Facey at his natural position. I assume Purvis will be starting, and I see DHam getting 20-25 mpg as a frosh. The only meaningful difference of being the "4" will be that Hamilton has to check the other team's big men.

I would not be surprised to see a little Nolan/Brimah on the court together if Nolan gets a little more comfortable with the ball on offense, but I suspect that foul trouble will limit that combination. Cassell and Facey will definitely get some minutes, because I see Boat as the only player that will be logging 35 mpg+.

Daniel Hamilton will see as much time at the 4 as Rip Hamilton did. Or Jeremy Lamb.

LOL!!! You can pretty much take it to the bank. When nelson says he'll play the 4, he most assuredly will do no such thing.

Great. But then if that's true, the whole notion of someone being "the 4" is irrelevant, isn't it ? "The 4" is a power forward. DHam is not a power forward. The idea that he would be playing "the 4" is silly.

Is it possible that at times UConn could play a 3 guard, 1 wing, 1 center lineup ? Sure. But likely only if the opposing team is also play a wing and 3 guards.

I bet that Samuel starts. I expect him to improve his outside shot over the summer, he can already go to the rack. Plenty of minutes to go around.

It's really only possible to get away with going small at the 4 if a combination of whoever you stick there and one or more of your guards are above average rebounders/defenders. This year we were so devastating in the three guard sets because Bazz and to a lesser extent Boat are both great rebounders for guards and Giffey and Daniels were great defenders and matured into rebounding forces. I'm speculating here, as we all are, but I'd say at this point D Ham will come in as a fantastic scorer and above average distributor but, as it is with a lot of freshman, his defense will need some work to adjust to the college game. I don't see him playing the 4 at all, and I doubt we see too much of Nolan/Brimah as it would clog the lane for us on offense and would be a bit of a liability on defense as well. Pray we get DD back and expect a lot of Facey/a possible grad transfer if we don't. Maybe Lubin comes along incredibly quickly, who knows. This is why while everyone is focused on our glut of guards and our perceived lack of big men when we're talking about recruiting it's really who's going to play the four for us going forward that really interests me.
