No BS, I was down in Diaco before that but thought his contract prohibited UCONN from firing him so I was pushing for a name Offensive coordinator. Part of my problem was I got to know him on a personal basis and lost some objectivity because I was rooting for him. For that reason, its not always good for fathers to coach sons. The Navy game hit me like a dagger to my heart. At that point I got the feeling that this might be the beginning of the end. I was so excited when he got here. I read the two Hayden Fry books and believed Diaco was going to turn UCONN around like Fry did at Iowa. I have a buddy that lives in Lincoln Nebraska and is a die hard Corn husker fan. Trust me, we have some interesting discussions. College coaching sports at the D1 level is a tough business. The few fortunate ones that rise to the level of Diaco and Ollie must be willing to take the public scrutiny when things don't work out, as painful as that might be. At the same time, they are set for life and I can think of many more unfortunate people than them in the world to feel sorry for. I hope both men learned from their experiences at UCONN and like all of us improve their crafts as they move on to the next thing. I will end this with a Hayden Fry quote from the books I read: "We have to be realistic. If we don't win, life will continue." Confident Carl adds, "Just not at UCONN!"
