I think its safe to assume Karaban's comments last week and now this comment from Hurley indicates they don't believe Reed puts in his 100% every game. Plays with his motor half off sometimes.3:10
"Can you just talk about the role that Tarris played last 10 minutes, 10 points 4 rebounds..."
Dan: "That's just what we've been begging for from Tarris. He'd be playing more of a minute line if he plays with that type of force, urgency, life or death approach"
Interesting comments especially after only playing Reed 10 minutes against SHU. 27 minutes tonight against nova.
They don’t believe it? Like everyone can’t see it? We’ve seen plenty of games where he’s really good and plenty of games where he accomplishes absolutely nothing.I think its safe to assume Karaban's comments last week and now this comment from Hurley indicates they don't believe Reed puts in his 100% every game. Yeah I don't really get the people who think Reed is "the" answer. The talent is there but the results are really hit or missThey don’t believe it? Like everyone can’t see it? We’ve seen plenty of games where he’s really good and plenty of games where he accomplishes absolutely nothing.
They see the matchup nightmare he creates when playing good and salivate on it. Problem is Reed is as consistent as UConn this year in playing good.Yeah I don't really get the people who think Reed is "the" answer. The talent is there but the results are really hit or miss
He's so much better than everyone else on this team in terms of game and mindset.Liam’s tone in the presser sounds like he is begging this team to play with the sense of urgency he has. He sure does sound like a guy who has unfinished business before he leaves Storrs and wants/needs his teammates to feel similarly.
Nobody thinks he's the savior he's just a lot better than Samson and he provides the things this team so sorely lacks.Yeah I don't really get the people who think Reed is "the" answer. The talent is there but the results are really hit or miss
Hass’ mindset is on par. He's so much better than everyone else on this team in terms of game and mindset.
The situation with Reed is simple. He provides offense when he gets the ball down low. We lack offense. We need him to touch the ball. He’ll score more and our shooters will have more open looks.
If you listen to the entire thing, he talks about Tarris’s inconsistnecies and how sometimes he brings no energy. This board has gone crazy. To the staff, there was good reason Tarris did t play much vs seton hall. Look at his response tonight. I know that hard to fathom w so many hall of fame coaches on this board.3:10

Yes, when Tarris plays like this we are a much better team. To me, we sort of know now what we will get from most of our guys. Tarris, if he plays like the second half, is the one guy who can really make a difference and catapult us. Fingers crossed. The difference in possessions when the ball touches the paint vs when it doesn't is stark. Even when we shoot from outside. Idk the data but I swear we shoot 20% better. We're so easy to guard when we swing, swing, swing shoot. Even worse when we don't fight for a ball reversal
it’s not like Tarris has been glued to the bench, he played the 5th most minutes on the team. When he plays hard he gets rewarded, sometimes he looks lost and he sits.I wonder how Tarris would respond if we said, we’re going to start you and we are going to commit to making you a key part of our offense?
There is a mental difference in coming off the bench.
Is he afraid of offending Samson? We don’t owe the kid a starting role.
And yet he is a much better 5 than Johnson. Tarris gets offensive rebounds, Johnson does not. Tarris can back down a guy, Johnson cannot. And Tarris' stats are better than Johnson per minute. He might not be the answer to one question, but he is the answer to the question of who is better for us at the 5.Yeah I don't really get the people who think Reed is "the" answer. The talent is there but the results are really hit or miss
My friend is a huge michigan fan and he told me when he committed that he was the same way there. Looked like a world beater one game, then disappear. Very inconsistent production.Yeah I don't really get the people who think Reed is "the" answer. The talent is there but the results are really hit or miss
It’s not my point. The point is if you want consistency out of your far more talented player option, use him in the most consistent way possible, starting. Why not try it? Is Hurley afraid to hurt feelings? It’s not like we are burning up the court with Samson starting. This teams best look all year has been when Tarris is on.it’s not like Tarris has been glued to the bench, he played the 5th most minutes on the team. When he plays hard he gets rewarded, sometimes he looks lost and he sits.

Of note, Hurley does say if he brings this energy his time line for games will absolutely go up.
