In an article in The Day paper of New London(sorry I could not find it online at its site) D1 men's soccer only is proposing to go to a full academic year season. 13 games Aug-Nov. , winter break and practice, restart in March playing 9 games then College Cup in late spring. Fuels development, and interest(not having championship in Dec), no 3 games in 1 week, other bennies and move toward FIBA rules such as substitutions.

Not sure I like this as it reads as a ‘professional’ versus ‘amateur,’ then again, for the NCAA, D1 has sailed well past that point in football and men’s basketball years ago. The official US academy programs already moved in this direction, which bars academy players from playing soccer or any other sport at their local high school.
