Last night Paige was the best player on the team..it was so nice to see her back to being Paige and the 6 to's weren't all her fault..however if you take all 3 games I think a case can be made that CW was the MVP..She did everything well including scoring but what really stood out was her defense against the 3 stars of the the other teams..Outstanding!..Yes there was a lot of switching all 3 games but CW was the primary defender..she has become the lockdown defender we needed..think we would have said that a couple of months ago
As far as switching goes this team may be the best I've seen..there was one segment last night that it was just a thing of beauty..it helps when all 5 players can switch on to any other players..Can't expect Paige to score a ton of points each game as they go forward to win games..it's got to be they'r defense with CW leading the way..they sure have come a long way since the Arkansas game

After last night's game, Geno said he thought that Big East MVP could have gone either way between PB and CW. I agree.

In the end I like that Paige won it because that should strengthen her credentials for National Player of the Year. But Christyn was a holy terror on defense all tournament long, and that gives a boatload of confidence for the team's prospects going into the big dance!

I don't completely agree with CW's defense except in the last game. She got her hand on three passes, good for two steals and I don't ever remember her doing that. She also kept the players in front of her and limited penetration. Enormous improvement over the season.

I thought she was horrendous defensively through the Ark game, then got marginally better and this last three games she was even better, capping it off with a terrific defensive performance in the championship game.

MVP is probably a tad rich, given that she only shot well in one game and one quarter and PB, despite the TO(yes 2 were not her fault but roughly 3-4 were), does more to help the team. But, CW is certainly in the discussion.

This should not have any effect on National Player of the Year. The award is supposed to be voted on for the regular season. The conference and NCAA tournaments don't sway those votes.

It's too bad because Evans was terrible in the ACC tourney especially the championship game while Paige was great especially her championship game. That being said Evans will more than likely win it..she's a senior while PB is a freshmen.Hey if Paige wins naional freshmen of the year and a first team AA and they win the whole thing..can't really ask for much more than that

When the judge tells the jury to ignore the remark about the last 6 murders the defendant committed ..do they?..Do the voters ignore the post season? Maybe/maybe not.

Unfortunately it’s all in a name and likely decided before final game. Evans made the all tournament for the ACC Tourney? How??? I think folks just voted for her because without watching the games or at least looking at a box score.

On TV, they quoted Geno about CW's game 2: "If she plays like that, we can win the national championship." Six more games CW, play like that!

Williams has been sensational during the 3 game tournament stretch. One difference I see, when leading on a fast break, Paige looks for someone to pass to, Christyn looks to take it herself. Not a criticism, just an observation. I'm with Geno on this one, Paige should be NPOY, I put Evans a close second.

I usually am not a fan of building up any individual player too much. However in Paiges case I am on board. Basically because of the style of play she represents. She is an assist first player, who however, can also can put the team on her back when necessary. This type of player will usually always find success at the next level, while those who look to score first will find that that option is often not avialable against better players.

As Geno often says- Players know how- but they need to learn when. More players than ever, come to college with fully developed skill sets. Their is not much development left for them individually. However, what they still can learn is how to integrate their own individual skill set into the collective whole as a team. That is the " When " of which Geno is referring to. They have to learn which is the best option available, rather than just taking the any option avalable themselves when it opens up.

I actually think the way Evans ended the year will hurt her. She is a good player, but her team didn't look good down the stretch and she became a volume shooter.

I actually think Piage might win more NPOY awards than she doesn't.

Well yes, but you can't make your eyeballs unsee something. I have to believe that a whole bunch of regular season games went unseen, but the tournaments?, less games, easier to monitor for the voters.

Aren't the regular season awards voted and counted before the post season but not made public until the Final Four weekend?

Are you sure? I read that voting just opened up and people can vote up until the day before the championship game. I'm gunna double check.

They are but we seem to have a growing chorus that some voters might be withholding ballots so as to include conference tournament play. The fan voting for the WBCA position awards is also still open.

Pretty sure it includes conference tournament. The only exclusion is supposed to be the NCAA I think. Pretty sure all teams now play in conference tournaments.

It doesn’t include conference tournament play. Think about it, the POY and DPOY are selected from the conference POYs and Conference DPOYs. The conference awards are handed out before the start of the conference tournament play. The conference also hand out separate awards specific to conference tournament such as the MVP and All tournament team which Paige won and CW and ONO were selected for the all tournament team.
