Good game between Memphis and S. Mississippi

There is decent talent on the floor.

S. miss just hit a shot at the buzzer to tie. It left the player's hands with .1 seconds on the clock. The ball was maybe less than an inch away from his fingertips when the red light came on. But the camera angle was so good that you could actually see the separation when the lights came on.

The NCAA has to revisit the flagrant 1 call. A Memphis player had his back turned to the basket and defender to establish low post position. The defender tried to go under his arm to front him, but instead they got wrapped up. The Memphis guy didn't even move his arm at all when it connected with the S. Miss player's face. In fact, the S. Miss guy might have been acting since there was 1 minute left and his team was down by 4. You couldn't really tell. The refs awarded a flagrant 1.

I hate this call now. It's basketball, there will be contact. Unless there's intent to injure, or unless the player is swinging his elbows, it shouldn't be a flagrant. Just ridiculous.

Lastly, the tourney is in Tulsa, a 5 hour drive from Memphis. Though the arena has mostly Memphis fans there, I see a lot of empty seats. So, though Memphis is top 10 in average attendance nationally, the fans don't seem to travel for the CUSA tourney even when it is close by. Maybe that's because they have a bid wrapped up and they are undefeated in conference. Maybe it's because they are saving for the NCAA tourney. Heck, UConn fans didn't travel at all to Buffalo during the 2004 Rd 1 of the NCAAs in firm expectation that it would be moving on to later rounds.

Southern Miss isn't a good team. But they get everything they can out of what they have. I'm a fan.

Playing conference tournaments at a school's arena would be a horrible idea for the soon to be named conference. Unless it is in Hartford, for selfish reasons.

Wow, this has been an awesome ending. Memphis on its way to a win...but this is March Madness!!!
