Will learn a lot more about this team in Maui, but Curious how people think we are starting this year v last year?

Average margin of victory both years was about 39 points (38.66 v. 39). You could argue they played better teams last year to get that margin v. this year but really splitting hairs.

The first three games last year really displayed how great UConn's offense is while this year has showcased UConn's defense.

Ironically, the worst performance of all 6 six games was last year against MVSU given how bad the opponent was and how slow they started that game.

While the slow starts are annoying, I have been impressed with how well this team has adjusted in real time and course corrected really quickly. In addition, the contributions from the bench this year will be more wide ranging and deep. Not saying necessarily better than Samson and HD last year but 3-4 guys will seriously contribute in a bunch of different ways.

It is not possible have as good of a starting lineup as last year, and I am not just talking UConn, I am talking all of college basketball. The closest you can find in recent memory in 2015 Kentucky, so the bench being a really good change of pace will be as important as the starters being good.

This is the opposite of what was expected. Thought this years team would be worse on D given that Clingan and castle are gone, but better on O due to improved 3 pt shooting

Injuries to Steph and Donovan probably account for poorer defense plus the same start differential.

The past two years had rosters that were more experienced playing significant minutes together. This team has a tremendous amount of talent but I’m expecting two different teams between the first and second half of the season. Competitive losses will still be painful but if they happen I think I’ll be able to get out of bed a bit sooner this go around.

I'm just curious how we scheduled Texas A&M Commerce tomorrow. Did someone's relative have a connect? Did they call us and we said yes? Did we reach out to them?

So odd to schedule/play a team like that as National Champions. There is nothing to gain playing them, as our practice squad (2nd team) could beat them.

Anyone know how TAMC won the lottery?

Interesting 9:30 am Memphis game a week from today--bus leaves for the shoot around at 7 am? 6:30?

I always wondered how they handle the time change in this case 5 hours. It would kill me and take a week to adjust. Their bodies are on East Coast time so 9:30 is 2:30 and 7 is noon. What day do they fly out there?

Wow, the bracket is so unbalanced. The bottom slate is so much stronger overall. Not sure if that's good or bad since it'll "guarantee" a run to the championship game, but it's a miss with all the really strong potential W's that Auburn/Iowa State/NC on the opposite end.
memphis is decent for a first game so as long as we get to exact revenge upon MSU in the second round for beating us in the 23 finals i'll be happy. weird both auburn and MSU were in that invitational too.

I made these cupcakes this morning- well, muffins really- lemon blueberry corn muffinsView attachment 104849
Thinking about this, I think cupcakes get a bad rap. I'd take a cupcake any day over a full cake. I think we should start calling these small conference programs as muffin stems. That would seem a lot more appropriate.

Buy games. Teams that just want a pay day will call around and see who will offer them the most money to travel for a beating. It's been going on for a long time. All the top teams do it.

There was a team UConn played last year or the year before who did like 10 straight buy games in a short period of time. The kids were exhausted by the travel and the beatings but the school said this was the only way to support their athletic department.

Coppin State, I believe

Yes, that was it. Thanks. 3 years ago. Found this article on it. Crazy schedule.

Coppin State’s 2021–22 schedule looks like it could be one big typo. The Eagles opened the season with four games in five days, a cadence the NBA eliminated from its schedules after the 2016–17 season to give players reasonable rest. That stretch started with a pair of games in Chicago on a Tuesday and Wednesday, then concluded with another in New Jersey against Rider on a Friday night, followed by a matchup with UConn in Hartford the next day at noon. All in all, Coppin State played 10 games in 19 days—and 13 games in a month—to start the season.
