My wife and I are looking for a recommendation for a town in CT to visit for a long weekend in early November. Driving up from NYC. Just looking for some place nice, small-town, relaxing, with outdoor activities within a short drive and good food. We will have a car, and are pretty flexible in general. Probably coming up the weekend of November 10-12.

Thanks very much in advance. Go Huskies!

Stay at the Delmar in West Hartford unless you’re looking for something more remote.

Checks all your boxes.
If he's coming from NYC, I don't think West Hartford is enough of a contrast. Still somewhat congested, dining would be similar but on a lower scale than NYC. I think he is looking for a more for a Litchfield. Remote, peaceful, fall foliage, country dining. It's all about contrast. On the other hand, someone from Litchfield would be looking for a place like NYC.

Stanley Park is beautiful in November.
And the locals are always so friendly. Maybe stroll the picturesque CCSU campus for like 10 minutes. Stop at one of the numerous and delicious Subways for a true CT grinder. You can't go wrong. Stay at the prestigous Courtyard by Marriott near the Westfarms Mall. 1-stop shopping and dining!

The renovated Target and the somewhat new Costco are nice too. You also forgot about Eastside.

As the point has been made, tourism is one of CTs bigger swing and misses. Every time I drive by the Q bridge I sigh thinking about what could have been with the waterfront in New Haven. Same for Bport. Loaded up the waterfront with industrial and losing big NYC $ that is a train ride away.

Nobody likes beer and girls in lederhosen. They even spank you if you drink too much. It's the wurst.

Stop being a sour kraut, the place is fine and even has a deck if you need to vomit.

Depending on interests, Litchfield Hills or the SE around Mystic and the casinos. Oh, and on the way back and forth from the City, stop in New Haven for real pizza, say the orgonal Pepe's on the way up and Modern on the way back.

November 10th... SMU @ Connecticut in East Hartford.

Outdoor activities in Connecticut after Daylight Savings ends?

Snowblowing, praying for global warming to get here and getting home before dark.

This brings up a good point, so thank you Whaler. UConn is just about the only reason to ever go east of the river BTW.

Bridgeport is developing the harbor into residential and commercial ventures. Industrial buildings are going or gone. Coal power plant will be replaced by smaller natural gas plant next to it.

Bidwell Tavern...?

It was 40 degrees here today with the sun out at 2pm.

Eastern Connecticut should bid to hold the Winter Olympics.
