Legendary Coach, Community Member Sam Burrell Dies At 89

Sam Burrell, a former member of the Hamden Legislative Council, was a past president of the Walter Camp Foundation and longtime volunteer.

HAMDEN, CT — Legendary area coach and community contributor Sam Burrell died Monday at the age of 89, according to the New Haven Register.

Burrell was a volunteer for many organizations in the area and was a past president of the Walter Camp Foundation and the Southern Connecticut Diamond Club.

"It is with great sadness we announce the passing of long-time legendary member and Past President Sam Burrell," the Walter Camp Foundation wrote in a post on Facebook. "Burrell was dedicated to his family and his community. The iconic Burrell recently celebrated his 50th anniversary as a WCFF member.
