Creighton has overall been the second best team in the BE for some time. I noticed that they have 3 players rated in ESPN's top 100 coming in next year: still no height, but should be skilled and competitive. Villanova also has an ESPN top 100 coming in next year. Anything that will help the level of WBB in the BE is good (assuming that we're not in the Big 12 soon).

24/25. I think creighton will be down a bit. Ronsiek is gone. I think coach flannery has been asking for a ton out of Maly, Jensen, and Ronsiek. And now that Ronsiek is gone. More weight on the shoulders of the other two. Jensen probably needs to average 20 ppg next season.

25/26. Good players are coming in. But that will be a really young team. And those young players are replacing Maly, Mogensen, Jensen, Horan, and Brake. It will be a down year for creighton.

Their best team was the elite eight team. And the coach was not able to replace some of the pieces that have departed since then with equal or better pieces.

I think the creighton coach needs to become more comfortable with using the portal to improve his squad.

UConn beat Creighton soundly last season, by 44 and 20. The February 2023 game at Gampel was a nail biter though. UConn was down 8 with six minutes to go but somehow managed to survive, 62-60. That was Flannery’s big chance against a depleted and tired UConn team.

Only six players played for UConn. Four are in the WNBA - Lou, Dorka, Aaliyah and Nika. The other two - Aubrey and Caroline - are still on the roster.

Geno subbed Caroline in with 16 seconds to go and the game tied. Went with her to win it and she got fouled, and made both free throws. We tend to forget just how good an offensive player she is.

Flannery is a good coach and will continue to produce NCAA Tournament quality teams.

A good Creighton team is good for UConn. If he could just pick off a big from one of the mid majors in the midwest from the portal.

For a smaller school, Butler's coach seems to have a knack for recruiting.
Their roster has some highly ranked Indiana players among them, along wirh others with solid bios.
Plus they have good overall height with 2 players @ 6' 4", 2 @ 6' 3". & 1 @ 6' 2".
8 Butler players are 6' 0" or more.
They also have a challenging OOC schedule.

I agree and believe that Butler will not be the BE doormat this year.

Should be in the 5-6-7 place mix, unless they gel early, then they could be as high as 4th place for the BE tourney.

Some thing are obvious and may need a little salt. It may also garner more interest in the forum designed for it.

Butler has 4 freshmen & 3 sophomores.
It will probably take a year or 2 for them to start peaking but if he's a good enough coach to make them productive then maybe they can begin to make some noise this year.
I'm looking forward to seeing Butler challenge the Big East's pecking order sooner or later.
If they can beat Creighton that would be a dandy yardstick.

Butler has made strides every year under this coach. I think creighton, UConn, and Georgetown are probably the only big east teams better than them on paper heading into this season.

If UConn stays in this league, predict that the quality of basketball will continue to improve for all of the league, both men's and women's. Each team can use their UConn games as PR to carve out a niche in their geography. Slowly but surely, new and better coaches are joining.

I have been hoping for the NBE to up its overall level of play since UConn rejoined the league. I do agree that there is an exceptional level of coaching talent throughout the conference. Unfortunately, other than UConn, most NBE teams struggle to recruit top talent.

Even when they do, as with Morrow at DePaul or Olson at Nova, the lure of NIL, P4 conferences and immediate transfer eligibility see such players taking their talents elsewhere. My concern is that the NBE, other than UConn, is becoming a “feeder conference” for P4 schools.

I thought UConn was improving the league. And then NIL and the transfer portal became more of a factor. And in my opinion that mitigated UConn’s presence. We have seen it two summers in a row. Some of the best players leave the big east and go to power 5 schools. The players that come in aren’t as good. The big east has become a bit of a feeder league.

So no. I don’t think the big east is going to get better because of UConn. The trajectory of that happening is gone. Wait till you hear what Geno says about all of this during media day and during the season. He will be more unhappy about the decline of the big east than anyone.

Agree with your take. But I am certain that Geno will unabashedly promote the conference in media day. He’s absolutely not inclined to criticize the overall level of competition in the NBE, even though he knows it’s true.

During media day, he will probably be positive. But at some point during the season… he will say something. It will be similar to last season when he appeared to criticize the departure of Lauren Park Lane. I think there will be a slow drip from Geno that will hint at his “true” feelings. But yes. He is going to try his best to be a good partner for the league.
