Not saying this is a possibility at all but itd be interesting to see what kind of league could be built based on program quality, fan base, recruiting etc.
Without using big 4 conference teams to make it more challenging.

12 teams.

Not gonna replace DePaul with St. Mary's?
I'm thinking at least three or four current BE schools won't make the cut of top 12 non P-4.

In other words, which midmajor should the BE add? Gonzaga is joining the PAC. We need join the big12.

San Diego state played us in the title game 2 years ago, Seton hall and Providence aren't going to any title games.

They have football and are joining the PAC . They’re gonna get more tv revenue than the BE it makes no sense for them.

I wonder if we could be like them and just claim to be a football school.

UConn, PC, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova, Temple, DePaul, Butler, Marquette, Creighton, Dayton, VCU
I wrote Temple instead of Georgetown for some reason. I could be talked into Saint Louis, Wichita State, and Memphis as well. Butler and DePaul are expendable IMO.

lol Gtown is still one of the biggest brands in the league and you wanna replace them with temple?

I also have zero interest in ever seeing something like this come together

Wichita State wouldbve been a lock 15 years ago. It seems so strange now to think of how good they were.
And I hear St.Louis sometimes as a team that could jump to a bigger conference- good history but just finished something like 5th in the A10 and rarely make the tourney. I am confused about the st. Louis love

The Debbie Downers are out in force, another thread with an opportunity to show how unhappy they are. Like we don't know already, LOL

I think it's interesting topic, and sticking to the guidelines rather than creating more silly reasons to complain

I don’t think New Mexico stands the time test. Georgetown hasn't been good for a long time.

Too Western-centric maybe take out New Mexico and add St Johns

I see you erased your first post. Why did @temery allow us to start deleting old posts?
I erased it because it included big 12/acc/big 10 schools and then realized you asked specifically not to include them. That’s when I realized what a waste of time this is, even hypothetically.

Yale - Quietly have earned NCAA Tourney bids in five of the last seven seasons
VCU - love that program, amazing fan base, fits region
Dayton - Ditto to VCU, replaces DePaul and Butler

Start with the Big East and give the boot to DePaul, Butler, and Seton Hall. Those are easy

Providence is nice for the regional aspect but they probably get cut too. Georgetown has been trash for a while but there’s history there so I’d keep them. So I have 5 open spots.

If I don’t care about regions - Gonzaga, SDSU, Dayton, Drake, and Memphis

If I do care about regions (loosely, since regional conferences are a thing of the past) - swap Gonzaga and SDSU with VCU and Yale. Keep Memphis and Drake since they are roughly the same distance as Creighton and Marquette

If I can’t have Memphis and Drake because they’re too far, give me…George Mason? And UNCW?

I care about region as well. We've lost that dimension and it has made things less compelling. Each conference was fiercely loyal to their region and I don't care how good marquette and Creighton are, you will never have as natural a rival as syracuse, pc, st johns etc.

For how bad DePaul has been historically, I am curious how Chris Holtmann's squad will look in Y2.

14-20 last season with a makeshift roster of transfers. Next year, they return not only their leading scorer CJ Gunn, but also NJ Benson and Layden Blocker, two starters who ranked 3rd and 4th in scoring while all three ranked within the top-four in the team's defensive metrics rates per EvanMiya.

Their transfer haul is already four deep w/ Kaleb Banks (15p, 7r, 1.3b at Tulane; career 33.3 3P%) penciled in to start at the 4 and RJ Smith (6p, 1.7a, 39 3P% at Colorado) penciled in to start at the 2. Their other two transfers look like they can be versatile bench pieces while the headliner of their '25 class is 7'1 Isaiah Medina, their first top-100 HS commit in three years.

Overall, for how much of a doormat they've been, I'm impressed that the roster is already 11 deep. Their frontcourt rotation already looks set, just need to flesh out the backcourt, especially needing another PG.
