What’s the craziest thing you ever did to see a women’s basketball game? Anything is fair game, including over paying for tickets, ridiculous travel arrangements, canceling other plans, you name it. For UConn fans, the ‘blizzard game‘ does not count. Yes I was there, but I’m looking for other stories.

I think for me, it was probably having my sister (who was an adjunct professor at OU) convince the OU athletic department to buy tickets to an OU-Connecticut game that was sold out in Hartford so that we could go.

1 - not 100% sure of the "blizzard game" reference? If it isn't the same game, the time the Gampel roof had a serious case of leaking. We were there (BE tourney?).

2 - Clockgate (Rutgers / Tennessee version), because it really was a wrong decision. Also UConn had one with a bogus late foul years back, but I don't remember the circumstances. NCAA tourney I think.

3 - as to tickets on a personal note - getting front row seats to our first Rutgers game (in those days there were no seats on the floor) but still good seats. Apparently a season ticket holder had turned them back in. And, our first NCAA tourney. At Iowa State. Could only get general admission, but called the Rutgers ticket office and for whatever reason, they put us in touch with one of the RU Asst. AD's at the game who traded our general admission seats for 2 seats nearly behind the bench. Not part of the team comps, just tix the athletic department reserved for emergency use.

and finally, another ticket story - the final of the Women's NIT that Rutgers won in El Paso. Just after we moved here to Tucson. As a non-NCAA managed event, Rutgers had limited comps, but no other tix were available. We called the WBB office and did, indeed, get put on the comp list. There were a couple other fans from the fan club going and they actually allocated a pair of tix as well. So we were on the guest list twice. Only used one set. RU won on a very late full court drive by Tyler Scaife, I believe she was a freshman. Watched the sold-out, one row of RU fans behind the bench only, building full of fans deflate.

There was a huge snowstorm and UConn was playing Tennessee. People have all kinds of travel tales for the game. I was living in Providence, RI at the time. Against all common sense, I drove a Ford Escort four hours in blinding snow and arrived just before tip off. My ticket stub is on top of the pile in my avatar.

Never did anything crazy to see a game.. I once tried to bribe someone to attend a game with me.
Now that hits home.

Never could get my nieces interested. Bought tickets multiple times and they came for their Uncle but never could initiate any real fandom. :(

Oh my, I'm not sure I want to tell this tale but here goes....During the amazing Stewie/Morgan/Moriah years, our two daughters were also attending Uconn /Storrs those 4 years and we attended many, many games. We decided Nashville would be our first Final Four and then I found front row, center court tix on eBay. I contacted the seller who was a die hard Tennessee fan who has been buying FF tix for over 25 years so gets the best seats! I agreed to buy the tix for a crazy amount-I really don't want to broadcast the figure-as I will certainly lose any tiny amount of respect I may (or may not) have on this board:)

The men making the FF was a huge bonus as our 4 day trip was an amazing schedule of attending a huge game in person, sitting directly behind Doris Burke, and then watching the men play the next night in any Nashville bar with hundreds of rabid UConn WBB fans! My wife was a CT public teacher who had to fib at work to attend this amazing BB weekend. We knew our tix were front row/center court but didn't realize that we would be prominently on TV when ever ESPN did close ups on Doris and Dave as we were sitting 2 feet behind them. My wife got on very friendly terms with the ESPN camera man, telling him that she couldn't be on national TV. He asked that she and I switch seats then set up his shot to cut off on my shoulder. True to his word, he always kept her just out of the shot so not only did we get to enjoy the great win over ND but my wife got to keep her job!!

Finally Doris comported herself really well, probably because I shared with her that my father went to Providence College, and at the end of the game she bequeathed to me all her WCBB notes on Uconn/Notre Dame that she had compiled all year:)

2017 WBB and MBB NCAA Tournament: WBB in Columbia then MBB later that evening in Greenville, back to Columbia then back to Greenville 2 days later for MBB. The following weekend I flew to NYC for 2 MBB games then home to Columbia. The next weekend I flew to Dallas for the WBB semis then to Phoenix at 5am for the MBB semis then back to Dallas the next morning for the WBB finals. We won't discuss the cost of that escapade.

Family drove two-plus hours into NYC MSG for UConn v. Maryland (Dec. 28, 2015) in freezing drizzily rain. UConn win by 10. Then drove home in ice storm, serious sideways wind & ice. Took about twice as long to return home. Family slept peacefully for most of ride. My body ache the next morning kept me in bed next day. Body tension was on 11.5 on scale of 10. Great Game Though! Stewie had 23 :D

I had a considerable amount of money on the finals of a dart match some years ago. My favorite shooter, Flanagan was up against a young and very good O’Malley who had destroyed everyone in marching to the finals. I put the grocery money on Flanagan and shortly after, I got a call from a friend in Dublin who told me that Flanagan went on a bender last night and could barely stand up as the match approached. So, I went to the gym and watched my neighbors daughter play a middle school game.

Feb 10, 1990. Stanford vs. U Washington. Chris Gobrecht (UW coach) states she "Hates Stanford" causing local uproar.
We are rabid Stanford fans recently relocated to Seattle. Used to the laid back crowds at Stanford, we went to the game even though we couldn't get tickets thinking there would be scalped ones available.
WRONG! We stood there in the pouring rain with our 6 week old son looking for tickets. Just as we were about to leave, a policeman walked over and handed us two used ticket stubs and we were in! Only to see our beloved Stanford loose the only game of that season.
Five years later my son would ask me if there were any men's sports, but that's another story.....

In my third year at Duke Law School, I took a guy (he was a student at UNC Law School) on a date to the Duke-UNC women's game in Cameron. The Duke women won, 101-58.

I did not see any romantic future for us. Did not really click with him, personality-wise.

But before I could have a conversation saying we should go our separate ways, he said he had an extra ticket for the Duke-UNC men's game at UNC (Dean Dome). I made sure to go on another date with him so I could see the game (the Duke men won in overtime). ;)

[Thread drift] When my daughter was about 5, we did our semi-annual trip to visit several of my family in New England. Hit my brother's, one sister's, and finally my folks'. At my folks' house, my wife said "It's nice to be here to show daughter that women actually cook." (I do all the cooking, as does my brother; and my BIL did all the cooking when we visited my sister.)

I'm a Baylor fan who lives in Waco. I had a business conference to attend in Orlando in 2019. Flight arrived a day before my conference on the day of the women's national championship game and my gf and I agreed that if we were able to get the rental car in time, we would go to the Baylor/Notre Dame finale. It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get the rental car, and we knew we would be late but decided to go anyway. Picked up our tickets online as we drove and got there minutes before the 2nd half started. Exciting half of play and an NC to boot! Not really too crazy, but it was very memorable.

If this is the "Blizzard Game, too bad. I doubt that anyone can top this story of troubles getting to it.

Don't remember the year or the date, but it was that game (against Tennessee, I believe) at the Civic Center when a Godawful snowstorm was coming up the coast. We left Philly plenty early for an ordinary storm but the snow was piling up[ faster than we could drive. I kept moving up 95 but got bogged down where 95 met the Jersey Turnpike. I remember getting out of my car and literally using a snow shovel to clear a path on the highway through the exit. We got into the Civic Center about two minutes before half time, and were walking to our seats when Taurasi unleashed that beyond-half-court shot that went in and changed the whole tone of the game.
I hated missing as much of the game as we did, but would not have missed the game for anything, even with all the stress of the drive.

Weather can be a big factor - we did hit weather going "to" a game, but the biggest snafu was when we got stuck in Florida one year after taking the auto-train down and snow prevented it from returning. We ended up driving home, I know we were there to see Rutgers / USF, possibly another game.

When I was a student at MSST, LSU was playing us at Starkville. LSU had a much better team, Pete Marivach days, and most of the State fans were content to scream at Pete to disrupt his game. That worked well for about one quarter but Pete started making some amazing plays and the MSST fans actually started cheering for him. He was the best college player I ever saw play and I will always remember that game!
