Megan Walker, Crystal Dangerfield impress as UConn women roll past UCF - Hartford Courant
The first half may have been the best UConn has played all season, forcing turnovers and knocking in shot after shot. The defense was disruptive, swooping in for lightning-quick steals, while the offense displayed the kind of shooting the Huskies have often been known for. Though they slowed down in the second half and didn’t shoot as well, it was still a strong performance from UConn that led to a 93-57 victory. ...
Coach Geno Auriemma said he was most impressed with Walker’s effort against UCF because she was more active than he’s ever seen her.
“Meg’s got a lot of skills. Meg’s a talented kid," Auriemma said. "We’ve said that all along from day one. That’s never been in question — her talent level. Now we’re ratcheting it up a little bit offensively and defensively. [Associate head coach Chris Dailey] made a good point at one point in the first half. She said ‘Meg needs a breather.’ That’s never been said before ever on our bench. Meg doesn’t go hard enough to need a breather, so the fact that she was really going today at both ends of the floor is a good sign. She’s come a long way in that regard.”
