No doubt it's been a work of art this season, but the at least the backbone of the Huskies, the incredible defense, was mainly in place entering the season and just needed more gelling and some learning from the freshman to get to its dominating status now. I kind of agree with Jamelle that a job like in 2003 even though it had DT as the glue is as good as this year because so much more had changed from 2002 and having a couple of freshman starters in the lineup and having to defend a bigger winning streak was to me more challenging than having to look to KML to come into the game and lead the scorers is today. OTOH, UConn was much more challenged in the Big East this year than back then, and the regular season now has more meaning while jockeying for position for the tournament. Two great jobs, among many others.

I don't know that Geno himself would agree. I think that Geno was right when he said near the end of the season that "this team has not improved", and I also think he was right when he later said "those two losses were good for us."

I'm not sure Geno had the temperature of this team throughout the season, in order to know which buttons to push as Tonya or Jamelle might say. Those late losses were what got this year's team to really swing into action. They served as the wake-up call for the team. They then were able to dig deeper and find a way to play with greater resiliency in the BE final, which was the key victory of the season.

It's not like Geno had nothing to do during this process. He certainly had a lot to do with it. I'm not saying it has been a "bad" job by him or the staff by any means. In a lot of ways it has been a very good job, just not necessarily his best.
