UConn
fans are in for a new experience this year, as their beloved powerhouse program is sure to go through a strange season. It’s completely possible — even highly likely — that the Huskies lose a game this year before making it to the tournament.

I don’t profess to know everything about UConn women’s basketball or this year’s team in particular. I’ve been allowed to watch one 20-minute stretch of practice and one exhibition prior to writing this, and I don’t have any psychic powers so I’m not going to act like I know how this season is going to play out. What I do know is based on facts and the almost constant candor of coach Geno Auriemma.

I hope so, so they can learn from the experience or least have a really close game or two where they win in overtime in the regular season. Blowout games aren’t helping.

Yikes. I’m going with what Kia Nurse said in a recent interview: “The only thing you learn from losing is how to lose.”

if stumbling means losing a game or two during the regular season then the answer is yes it's quite possible..............

I consider this piece of tripe to be a step down from journalism -even sports journalism- by Kelli Stacey.

Thanks for the suggestion on what to have for lunch tomorrow ;)

Kia Nurse is flat out wrong Period.

In every field, from business, to engineering, to art, to sport, we learn so much from making mistakes. (In sport that is called losing.)

I think Lou and Pheesa have really seen how hard it is to win a NC. Every practice this year has to be 100% focused on perfection. Then, excellence comes. (Who said that? :))

We just did not bring our "A" game in the last 2 FF's. Period. If we had, we wouldn't be musing over last-second shots in OT. We would have won by 10, both games.

We'll see what happens in late March early April 2019.

Well if you ask some, they stumbled the last 2 years by not winning it all

While I certainly accept the concept of "learning from your mistakes," I think you may be overanalyzing Kia's comment, which, as I previously pointed out, was actually a quote frequently used by Geno. The comment is not literal. It's rhetorical. The comment has much more to do with a team emotionally accepting a loss or two or three, to the point where losses don't bother them anymore.

Let's look at TN. When Pat was still around, she suffered through every loss and so too did her team. That was part of the reason TN was so good for so long. To her credit, HW also appears to suffer through each and every loss as do most longtime Lady Vol fans. But as for the players, not so much. So when TN loses to Bama 3 times in a season or to OR St in Knoxville during the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament, the players accept it as part of the basketball experience at TN.

What Kia and Geno are effectively saying is that we may lose a game every now and then, but we will never, ever accept losing as part of the UConn experience.

Hasn't this been a Thread topic (well multiple Threads actually) ever since Stewie and Co. graduated? (And possibly before????)

Yes, UConn could stumble. I do not believe they will though. Teams will be in for a rude awakening. I think teams are feeding into the articles that are being written about UConn.

Well, I agree with you, but that is not what Kia said. What you infer is the opposite of what she said or what Geno said.

One of the best ways to lose as little as possible is to learn from every loss, i.e., to take each one as something really bad, and to learn from it. So says I.

Not quite sure which direction I should take....two threads one UConn to stumble and other for UConn NC. It's like going to vote all over again.
