Yeah, I'm probably reaching here big time. But if the combined minutes at the 4 & 5 that are now opened up even more so by Scoe's departure can be the difference in landing a more suitable 4/5 combo compared the the 3/4 combo that Scoe is, maybe this helps the program in the long run.

We seem to have plenty of guards and wings where JC can mix and match Bazz, Boat, Omar, Giffey, Daniels and Evans, the greatest immediate and future need is at the 4 & 5.

It's not a stretch that Obekpa and Hayes see that the only thing that stands in the way of getting a whole bunch of the 80 minutes at the 4 and 5 are Olander and Wolf, that both might just jump at a 2012 scholly, even if post season play is still very much in doubt.

Think about it? A lot of recruits choose programs where the roster is young and winning more than a post season game or two the first season is far from guaranteed. It's not a stretch to point these young bigs and any other available ready-to-play bigs that don't see themselves as one-and-dones, to look at the 2013/14 season where all but one of the talented 1s - 3s are all upperclassmen, with the exception of Omar, that they could play major minutes for a team that can make another deep run in the BET and NCAAs. It's always hard to predict who might leave early. Of the current players to be on the 2012/13 team, maybe Bazz or Boat or Omar could leave early if any of them have a monster year. Of those 3, Bazz is the one that might see that returning for his senior season might hurt his stock more than help. As long as we don't lose both and are able to add a very good 2013 PG or 1/2 Combo, we'll be fine.

Now if the staff is not able to add at least one ready-to-play big, we're pretty much screwed for this upcoming season. If they aren't able to restock with a bunch of 2013 bigs, the future continues to look scary.

It would be nice if they could get back in the mix with Parker and/or Jefferson, but I doubt that will happen.

I wonder if there are any International players to be had. I haven't heard much at all about 2012 eligible international players. Isn't there the next Hasheem or even Chuck out there?

I actually liked the idea of playing a smaller lineup with a skilled player at the 4. I think Roscoe's loss is a huge one.

Now we have to go either pretty small (two point guards, two wings, plus Olander or Wolf) or force a big lineup that isn't nearly as good (three guards, plus Olander AND Wolf). I fear JC will choose the latter.

Not if they don't add any ready-to-play bigs to the line up. Olander and Wolf can't play 40 minutes each. And even if they do add one more big, there are going to be times when two of the 3 are in foul trouble. And I'd find myself trying not to think about what will happen when 3 of the 3 are in foul trouble. Not only do you tend to run out of bigs in the 2nd half as they foul out, but they tend to play soft when in foul trouble knowing there is little to no one to back them up.

The more I think about this, the more this team needs to add 2 bigs and hope they can play right away at this level.

I think JC is finally going to have to get away from an NBA-sized lineup, simply because we don't have the size.

A tangential point that I've been making over the last ~2 years is that fielding that sort of lineup is counterproductive at the college level, when you're utilizing over-sized, but under-skilled players at many positions. But that's another argument.

This coming season may be the year I don't get my ESPN FullCourt package
We may even have big problems with the pre-Big East schedule this year. That's how bad it could be. 9-24 is possible

Unless of course they manage get a stud big guy.

9-24???.....So you're saying we'll win our OOC cupcakes and go winless in the BE?

At this point, I for one would welcome a Chuck for next year.

Nope, nothing positive. We lose a big on a team that was thin to begin with. As bad as it is to lose Roscoe the player I'm more concerned at this point about the perception of the program by recruits.

Time to tap the juco market. Its not looking good at all (and I'm not talking wins/losses). DD and Giffey will be needed step up and produce. I just don't know who will man the PF position if we have to play big.

Or any more crazy full court shots with 12 seconds to go.

Seriously there is nothing good about it. With the amount of extra playing time that would be available, what Calhoun was offering really turned Roscoe off. Time and time again Calhoun has tried to make someone into the type of player he thinks they should be and not willing to let them play to their strengths. With this team instead of being hard on Drummond about his boxing out and rebounding he forced Roscoe and Tyler to play the 4.

An extra schollie and some fond memories.

Maybe they won't like their options and will return to UConn.

We lost a potential NBA player. Nothing positive can come out of this... Today is a very sad day in the Uconn Men's Basketball program :(

I guess you could say the one silver lining is that this might have talked Bradley into sticking around. Seems like a great kid and could be a decent big man for a couple years here. Just give us 25 and 12 and we'll be all set.

Seems kinda confusing, they're not really competing for the same minutes, right?

Yes, they would be competing for some of the same minutes. AD, then AO leaving created a domino effect that where Scoe would definitely pick up more minutes at the 4, a position he has been playing more often.

Oh ok, I was under the impression that Bradley was more of a C than a PF. Thought he'd be competing with Wolf, and Olander would be competing with Roscoe.
