If Ollie shows that he can handle the head coaching duties, I would not be shocked if some other high major program makes a run at KO even if Manuel decides to sign him to a long term deal. If I was an AD of a program that needs a coach this spring and sees that KO does well as a HC, plus the way that recruits seem to really like him, I'd try to out-spend UConn for his services.

I think KO would take a solid deal and pass on a big one to coach here if Manuel goes that route due to his loyalty to UConn. But I would not blame him if he was willing to listen and in the end takes a deal that pays him a lot more if that were to take place.

I believe I posted a while back that KO could have been had to a long term contract for a reasonable price, and by offering him just a 7 month deal, it just might cost the university a lot more money now if KO does an outstanding job.

i'm afriad 1 certain pac school will at least think about it and that school would prob be the only 1 KO would even bother to think about.

The answer to your thread title is "no".

Come on guys, let's see what KO brings to the table first.

Agreed. We should at least wait to see how well he can recruit for the unnamed head coach who will succeed him next year.

KO's contract will be extended long before the expiration date arrives (unless WM has already decided to replace him once this season in over).

Manuel and the administration don't like Ollie. If he doesn't have a huge season and get a top recruit (Vonleh), he's gone come spring time.

Exactly how do you know this?

He would have gotten a multi-year deal like any other new coach. A 1-year deal means he's a pawn just to get through the void.

Why give a guy you don't like the head coaching job when there are two other candidates on the bench who have head coaching experience? Manuel could have picked Glen Miller or Karl Hobbs to be interim. Just because he got the 1 year deal does not mean WM and administration don't like him.

Herbst likes KO. The decision will be Manuel's. He does not dislike KO, but the position is vacant starting April 2013 for a reason.

They absolutely do not dislike Kevin Ollie and he got the interim tag just like almost every coach would in a similar circumstance.

Excellent use of the double negative.

I just think we'll have a coach from the outside come April. Brad Stevens?

I have no idea, but I'm not sure he'd be interested, or that he'd be a good fit here.

I do know that if I was a competitor of UConn, say, another Big East school or, worse yet an ACC competitor in the region like BC, I'd be actively courting KO the instant I saw an opening to scoop him up. I'm sure there are more than a few schools that would find it very sweet to have him build up their basketball program to surpass ours, and at our expense, should Manuel not extend him.

As I've said, I am confident that KO will excel as a head coach. I am much less confident, 50/50 at best imo, that that will happen here. Wherever it happens, I'll be rooting for him.

This is the same guy who said that Manuel wants to purposely set the athletic program back 20 years.

KO isn't going anywhere if he is offered an extension.

Every time one of you Ollie-nazis post something like this, a puppy is killed.

Seriously, you know what Ollie hates? People posting crap like this. If recruits, players or the media read it, a divide is created that only serves to undermine what he is doing and his chances for sucess.

Only way he does is if UConn low balls him thinking that he won't go anywhere and another program comes along with a big offer. But I doubt that happens even if he coaches well this year. And even if it does I think KO gives UConn every opportunity to make an offer that is good enough.

Why is everyone so set on Ollie being the coach past this year. Unless he gets a great recruiting class I rather see us go in a different direction.
