1. Early on, it looked like the gameplan involved getting the ball to Reed in the paint as often as possible. It worked well. They should have done more of it.
2. 4:40 left in the half, and BYU still had zero dimes.
3. All through the first half, we were passing to an opening in the interior while BYU drove into a crowd in the paint on almost every possession.
4. Not happy with the last few minutes of the half. BYU seemed to get some life, hitting 2 threes after going 0 for 10 in the first 17 minutes. Also got 3 dimes in the last 3 minutes... their first assists of the game.
5. On the other hand, Solo came alive in the last 3 or 4 minutes, and Demery had a very good half.
6. We shot 57, 45, 67 percent to BYU's 38, 17 & 80 in the first half. For the game we shot and almost identical 57, 44 & 67, while BYU improved to 49, 31 & 78.
7. Calls going BYU way mid 2nd half. It feels like every BYU possession we're getting called for a foul, with no calls at the other end. At 8:15 into the 2nd half, there've been 4 more 2nd half fouls called on us than BYU.
8. General observation. Reed has great court vision in the paint.
9. Ross' 5th foul should have been called an offensive foul.
10. When did they stop calling goaltending? Mboup's tip in was clearly and squarely (roundly?) on the rim when he tipped it.
11. All of a sudden, everything they're throwing at the rim is going in.
12. Solo missed a FT? DAMN.
13. Three UConn players with 21 apiece, and I would be comfortable giving POG to any of them. One of Alex's best all around games of his career, with 4 for 4 from 3; Reed had 8 boards and a couple assists to go with his 8 for 10 shooting; Demery had 7 boards and 5 assist to go with his 21 points, plus only 1 TO and 1 foul.
14. Maybe we need to see more of Reibe. In 5 minutes of PT, he had 3 boards and a bucket.
15. We lost our momentum 5 minutes into the 2nd half, and never got it back. We led by 20 at 14:55 of the 2nd half on Demary's layup. And then everything turned to garbage. 5 minutes later, it was a 14 pt lead. 5 minutes after that, the lead was 5 points. And not quite 5 minutes later, we won by 2 points. In the last 15 minutes of the game, we were outscored 43 to 27. That does not bode well with the # of top flight opponents we have coming up.
16. I guess teeth have skin, because we won that by the skin of ours.
