Yes ....... but................... The owner of the Hornets in 2006 was a cheapskate named Bob Johnson...... Now its Micheal Jordan. I have no way to prove it... but I think Jordan would be more supportive of a WNBA team than Johnson was. If Jordan were the owner in 2006.... I believe the Sting never would have folded. Concerning the arena deal.... The Hornets operate and run the arena. So a favorable deal wouldnt be a problem :p Charlotte's population in 2006 was around 650,ooo....... its up to around 850,000 now.... metro population is up to about 2.5 million.... The Sting only got to play one year in the new downtown arena.... and its much more of a vibrant place than it was. The Center City population has grown to about 20,000 people....... and there are plenty of restaurants, hotels, surrounding the arena. And if a person didnt want to hunt or pay for parking... they could just take the Light Rail downtown.... and there is a stop across the street from the Arena. This wasnt an option in 2006. But... all the explosive growth notwithstanding.... .. im not sure how many of the thousands of new residents are fans of the WNBA and women's basketball in general. Head bang And I think the city is more interested in acquiring a MLS franchise at the moment. Head bang Yes.... Its all a pipe dream... but I would love to see the WNBA return to NC.... but I dont see it happening anytime soon.
