Some interesting stats within this article:

He sits at 2956 hits as well, so just 44 more to reach 3000. You have to figure he will likely fall 10-20 short this year but should reach the 3000 hit club in the first month of the next season.

Truly a great hitter. He had a slow start this year but has rebounded rather nicely and hovers around a respectable .250 BA for the year. I think he had a mini-slump before hitting #500 where he had gone 0-13 before hitting the HR.

Congrats to Miggy. Next question, will Pujols be around next year to try for 700? He's currently 23 short and has 15 this year in about 250 PAs.

What a stud. Who’s the next to 500?
Stanton? Upton?

A look at the list of active players and after Miggy, it's Nelson Cruz (41 years old), Edwin Encarnacion (38 and a free agent) with over 400.

Then Ryan Braun (37 free agent) and Robinson Cano (38 zero home runs this season), both closer to end of their careers.

Stanton age 31 with 332 is next.
Upton age 33 with 324

Then Joey Votto (37) and Evan Longoria (35) both probably too old to have a shot.

Then Trout in his age 30 season with 310.

Those are the active players with over 300 home runs.

I would think Stanton, who may very well set the strikeout by batters record when it is all said and done. A record Reggie Jackson currently holds (he struck out 2597 times in his career). Stanton currently has struck out 1520 times but is just 31 so maybe he has a shot and Upton is another threat to reach that record, currently 7th with 1942 strikeouts at 33. Miggy is 12th all-time btw.

But, I wonder if at some point they might have a drastically shorter season. I read that in an ESPN article but probably just some writers musings more than anything.

So, Mike Trout is next to 500.
