You guys outworked us, out-hustled us, and simply out-played us. No excuses.

With your lack of size inside, we should have been dunking on you all game, and instead we took a bunch of outside shots and missed most of them.

You also pocket-picked Carter-Williams all game long. He may be tall and have a knack for a nice pass, but his handle is too loose for him to be the player he hopes to be. Nevertheless, he'll probably be gone in the draft lottery, and we'll break in another guy next year. That's college hoops today.

Kevin Ollie is going to be a fine coach for you. He inspires his guys and they play hard. Personally, I would want a guy to represent my school who uses proper grammar, but good coaching doesn't require someone who excels at the press interview - just look at Calhoun.

To sum up, this game is kind of indicative of our rivalry over the years. When the chips are down, you guys deliver more often than we do. Congratulations on a fine win.

That early Christmas dunk was so easy I thought it was going to be a looooong night. And then when Outlander scored the first 4 points down low i was thinking, hmmm, maybe not. Not sure why Boeheim allowed the outside game to propel his team. Awful coaching. No in-game changes at all.

And the back-handed Ollie compliment. C'mon, man.

Not sure what was worse Boeheims coaching or temper tantrum during the press game conference. Stay classy Cuse.

Classy response.

I think KO will improve. Reading transcripts, I cringe; hearing him speak, notsomuch. He reminds me of a pastor.

Here's hoping we play each other in the future--either as OOC when we're both in real conferences, or as conference mates.

Do you think JB coaches a game in the ACC?

Thanks for the kind words Matt. You are officially the least douchy 'cuse poster I know. Low standard, I know.

I dunno - the grammar crack was pretty douchist. Like let me throw in this sniveling little passive-aggressive dig while they are buttered up. It was almost a good post, but he couldn't quite make it to the last paragraph without tripping up.

There may be a sports parallel here we could use as an analogy. Do we know of a team that tends to have a good run in the early and middle, but stumbles just a few steps from the end?

I didn't love it. I thought the rest was classy enough to overcome that. Especially since I wish KO's language would look as good on paper as it sounds live. You can't read the cadence.

Calhoun mumbled and slurred too much, Ollie's grammar is not perfect. When all your coaches do is win, the haters have to find something to pick apart I guess it will be the way they talk.

Thank you for the backhanded compliment. You're getting out of the conference just in time, UConn Phase II is in full effect, and I know that's gotta cause a little flutter in your tummies.

TEN TOES IN.

for this post to even have 1 "like" is disappointing, can't believe some of ya'll still playing up this "KO can't speak well" garbage. After this first started before the season I made it a point to listen to other coaches during pregame/halftime/postgame interviews, not sure how KO sounds worse than any of them.

I'll go there - a Southern coach can say something like "i tell y'all what, i ain't got a clue why we can't shoot the daggum ball" and nobody cares - he just has character.

During some interviews I could undstand only roughly 50% of what Calhoun was saying, but I wouldn't trade that guy in for all the tea in China.

These Syracuse guys seem to want this

But personally, I'd rather this

I guess I'd suggest Subject Verb agreement is a bigger speech issue (grammar based) then a colloquial dialect. If you want to argue the S-V issue is itself a dialect... sure. I do think that the Southern coach who says that sounds pretty stupid.

As I said, I don't really care anymore. I think, when you hear him speak, it sounds fine. I don't particularly think it's a problem for you to "go there." I read, let's say, "coded" language all the time, here and elsewhere. And it should probably be called out.

I'll remember that when every inflated-head-Cuse-grad-broadcaster guy says "he was well defensed" or "out-defensed" Drives me astoundingly nuts.

Defense can be used as a verb, though, as stupid as it sounds out loud. It's not often used, but the OED uses it.

It sounds stupid. If I heard it (I don't really recall it), it would annoy me. But it doesn't mean it is ungrammatical.

You gotta be a full blown weirdo to be quibbling on how his words come out on paper. The man uses great rhetoric to rally his troops and in his first season it has worked nearly to perfection . stop reaching

Yes, truly the guy who said this needs to be chastised for his speech: “We’re not playing for the postseason. We’re playing for the love of UConn. We’re playing for the love of each other. We’re playing for the pride of getting better. They can’t ban us from that. They can ban us from the postseason, they can ban us from the Big East tournament, but they can’t ban us from getting better and loving each other."

Somehow this thread turned into a thread suggesting that I was unhappy with KO. I'm not. I'd rather have Calhoun, and his impossible to understand speaking than any other well-spoken coach. You picked a very good example of KO using language. There are other examples less eloquent. But I don't care. I think he's a damn good coach, and that's all that matters.

Not you, not you. The first guy. The guy who likes the team that lost.

About Ollie, dude, the guy talks ghetto. That's no way to represent a university. Go to a speech coach.

It was about a couple things. Foremost, Boeheim apparently talked to Katz a couple weeks ago about the Southerland suspension, Boeheim thought the comments (or at least a certain degree of specificity about them) was off the record, and Katz ran a story with more detail than Boeheim thought was appropriate, given current law protecting student privacy.

Beyond that, though, Boeheim and his wife are still carrying a grudge about the aftermath of the Bernie Fine matter. When Boeheim and his wife talked about raising some money for abused children, Katz apparently took a shot at him in a column, which Boeheim felt crossed a line.

To sum up, Andy Katz has burned that bridge.

He'll improve in time, I think. Just has the bad habit or two he falls into.

That's fair, and I'm not suggesting it's going to hurt him with recruits, either. I think the pastor analogy was pretty fair. Jesse Jackson's comments don't read well, either, but sound fine. So, OK, fair point.

Or maybe just hire an assistant coach who is a homosexual pedophile, with a wife who screws the basketball team. And then deny everything when the guy gets outed. That's a helluva way to represent a university.
