Conference tourney pickems - the 31 Automatic Qualifiers

Good look rattled in and out. Harvard wins the Ivy. 24 for Harmoni Turner, went over 2000 career points.
 
Liberty beat Middle Tennessee 53-48 for the CUSA title.

edit--first appearance since 2018; have been the representative from the Big South previously but first time as a member of CUSA
 
UC San Diego is up big on UC Davis in Q4 in the Big West final. Moved up to D1 in 20-21, this is their 5th season so are they eligible for the Tourney or do they have to wait 1 more year? Would be their first appearance obviously, like Grand Canyon.


edit--looks like it's a 4 year waiting period, so the Tritons are golden if they can hang on
 
Coach VanDerveer makes the Tourney...but it's Heidi not Tara. UCSD gonna hang on. #4 seed in their tourney.

Lehigh wins the Patriot League final vs Army, 74-62. Fairleigh Dickinson beats Stonehill, 66-49 in the NEC.

As soon as the MVC Murray State/Belmont game is finished, I'll post final standings.
 
Katelyn Young from Murray St. just passed Cheryl Miller in career scoring, and has such luminaries as Holdsclaw, Moore and Delle Donne in her sights. Kinda crazy. Of course that is with the benefit of 5 years.
 
Belmont made a big run in Q3 to erase most of what had been an 18 point deficit, but then Murray St. answered and then some. 80-58 w/ 1 minute left. I think we can call this one. Racers get the auto bid.

I'm really curious if the Missouri Valley is gonna get more than 1 team. Pretty hard to distinguish between the top 4 teams in the conference.

I can't believe how often a team with a lead late in a game fouls a shooter, when it's the LAST THING in the world you should be doing. Especially on a 3. Seems like it's usually on a late close out, where you aren't going to effect the shot anyway. Must take years off the life of their coaches when they have brain cramps like this.

I assume no one picked William and Mary? I saw the exciting final quarter. W&M beat all three top teams in the Coastal A.A. to make the NCAA tournament. I assume they'll be the last 16-seed and have to win a play-in game, which I intensely dislike. I feel strongly that all the automatic qualifiers should go into the main draw, and the play-in games should be the last eight at-large teams.

W&M is a great story, but darn if they didn't ruin my weekend. They came from behind Friday beating the #1 seeded Aggies from my backyard... today they beat Campbell which is right down the road :oops:

Thank YOU, LisaG, for organizing this "tourney before the tourney" and all of the frequent updates. It was fun to have some new rooting interests this week between the Big East tournament and Selection Sunday. Fun to watch some upsets and to learn about some new players going into the Big Dance. :D

William & Mary has a record of 15-18. I think being in a play-in game is entirely appropriate for them.

I think the conference winner should qualify for the tournament. A play-in game isn’t the same. They’re playing a day or two early against another 16 seed in a mostly empty arena.

Let the teams that are voted in play four games for the 11-12 seeds if you absolutely need 68 teams.
