I had extremely high expectations of this years team based on last years results and everyone returning.
These expectations were based on a number of Factors .
1. Guards were great but on the small side and could have problems against bigger guards with quickness. We were lacking a third experienced ball handler to spell these guys. We couldn't afford an injury to either especially SN. They have performed as well if not better than expected, but have played a lot of minutes.
2. DD would play at the same level if not better than the way he ended last year.
He seems to be confused on whether he is a three or four.
He has the ability to be the best rebounder on the team but his three mentality is keeping him from being the 4 the team needs. He is playing at 70%.
I'm his biggest booster and hope he gets it. He is the biggest piece to destiny of this team. (Guard injury excepted)
3.. OC with his hip corrected would be better than his 11 points per game.
This has been a disaster. OC is at about 10%. Without Kromah's addition OC struggles would have doomed this team to NIT.
4 We would have one of the to 6th man in the country in NG.
His defense is would be a game changer. He hasn't met my expeditions on defense but his offense has been better than expected.
5. Our 5's were young but based on Nolans progress last
Year I thought they would make progress as the year went on.
Progress is not linear. Wolf might have helped but without Kromah we are dead.
Brimah has been a pleasant surprise.
With Giffey and Kromah coming off the bench , 3 centers, +the gradual introduction of the freshman this team had the potential to be very special.
They may still catch lightning in a bottle, but it seems unlikely.
They have 21 wins including a win over the current number 1 team in the country.
So maybe we should just enjoy these kids ,especially the seniors, who have given so much to the program. I have the feeling Huskie fans will look back fondly on these kids. I think they are special regardless of where they finish.
