at the end of regulation are simply wrong. take a look at the replay. Novosel was down the court ahead of Kaleena, and the only way that Kaleena could have boxed her out was to have " leapfrogged" over her. Natalie was in front of her the entire way. to stop Novosel at that point would have required fouling her.

Uhh. perhaps don't let her beat you down the court!
She hadn't let her open for a pass from Diggins. That required potentially being between the two not necessarily between Novosel and the basket. She then trapped Novosel under the basket. Novosel was then able to cross the basket because Diggins had taken out the defenders on that side knocking them to the ground.

After looking at the play again, it was more a good play by Novosel than it was a bad play by Kaleena--a senior making the play before a freshman. Both were jogging down the court until Novosel made a hard cut to the basket to get into position. When KML saw this, she then began to sprint to get in position for the rebound, but by the, Novosel already had it.

Now, in a perfect world, KML would have been sprinting the other way for the entire play, but this obviously wasn't the case.

You're right I was thinking of Kelly's position which was deeper and between Diggins and Novosel's passing lane.

As I watch it now KML seems to get hung up about whether to take McBride who she was with at first or to move on to Novosel probably thinking of the trailing spot up 3 for each which was a danger. When suddenly Novosel turns hard for the basket KML accelerates but she was never going to be in position for boxing out and it is an unrealistic expectation. She did do what she could which was to trap Novosel as deep as she could under the basket until Novosel released out the other side where people were on the floor and Kelly was unable to contest the shot because of the folks on the ground.

Unlike someone stated earlier CD sets her feet a fraction, about a frame before Diggins leaps, advantage Doty.

as the saying goes," that's the way the ball bounces", and ,fortunately for ND, it went right to novosel. ball caroms anywhere else, and the game is over. good point regarding caroline . the ref had a clear view, and swallowed his whistle. it didn't look like a "play on". another case of the "star" getting the benefit of the doubt. that's twice this year.

Or maybe take it this way???

There were how many other blown plays trhoughout the game prior to this one???

Pretty certain you can roll the video and find tons of blown assignments.

It's cumulative.

maybe KML slowed up because she thought there was going to be a call or a made basket...

Kelly was deeper and would probably have slid over to box out Novosel had she not been compelled to step in front of and provide help on Diggins who had gained a step on Hayes.
The better play for Diggins, and it was there, was to bounce a pass into Novosel streaking down the left side. She also had Mallory spotted up on the three point line in the right corner.

I had actually thought UConn might foul to both
-have time left to win
-to prevent a winning 3 on a kickout.

You made a great point.
