Not gonna count but a lot of seniors entered the portal because of the free year. Some of those would have ended their careers this year.

The fifth year is a big part of the portal because a lot of academic seniors are more interested in graduate school than their basketball 'careers'. Syracuse is a good example because almost half of their transfers had already graduated and had little future as basketball players.
Going to a different university for graduate school is pretty standard practice for all students and it is a very different choice being made by a much more mature woman than the choice being made at 17 by HS students.

Not clear that you can draw that conclusion.
If you are losing your top players to better schools then that's bad, but if you're losing your worst players, not so bad.
If I could get 1 transfer from UConn and lose 3 players to D2, I'd take that in an instant.
IN: 9 from P5, 5 from other
OUT: 5 to P5, 16 to other D1, 2 to JUCO
On net, seems like an upgrade in talent.
