Ok, here's a topic we can all have some fun with. Since the dawn of man, college and professional athletes have have some interesting and unique nicknames. Here are but a few, can you identify these players? The Cheetah, The Judge, The Glove, The Kansas Comet, and Nails. What are some of your favorites? Some of us old timers can go as far back to the 1930's.

Kansas Comet was Gale Sayers and Nails was Lenny Dykstra. And the Glove was Gary Payton. Am I right?
Yes sir!!! You are 3 for 3. I thought most folks would have a problem with Dykstra's moniker.

My apologies in my post above I asked who is the Colonel.
It should be the Major!
Sorry about that!

Here's two more: BIG Daddy (not David Ortiz) & The Express. The express is an easy one. BIG Daddy, not so much. If you're under 50, I doubt you know this one.

Trevino is indeed 'The Merry Mex'.

BTW: his on-course personality was just that. Privately he was very much a quiet introvert...room
service dinner in the hotel...practiced putting and watched TV into the night...no social rambling unless he had to.

Big Daddy Lipscomb.

Who is Iron Byron?

The Ole Professor?
The Colonel?
Night Train?
The Admiral?

The King?
Chief?
Jelly Bean?

Mr, Bill?
Putt-Putt?
Baby Bull?
Slick?
The Admiral = David Robinson (San Antonio Spurs), The Chief = Robert Parrish (Boston Celtics), Jelly Bean = Joe Bryant (Kobe's dad), Baby Bull = Orlando Cepeda (San Francisco Giants), Donald Earl "Slick" Watts (Seattle Supersonics). Night Train Lane I knew. Richard Lane NFL (LA, Chicago & Detroit) was married to singer Dinah Washington in 1963. The rest of them, I have no idea.

Blake, you're good. I didn't think anyone would know/remember Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb. A tip o' the turban to you sir. :) Eugene Allen "Gene" Lipscomb (August 9, 1931 – May 10, 1963) was an American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) and a professional wrestler. He was known by the nickname "Big Daddy".
