College Basketball Discussion January 24-31

LOL I had a hunch this would be the first post in this thread! Kid is really friggin good.

At some point we've got to start recruiting Connecticut kids again.

Nice pass.

But again, and this is not only in regards to CT kids either, but most kids don't want to stay close to home. They can not be faulted for wanting to go somewhere new, experience new things, etc. and we really have no right to expect that from young adults.

PG: Waters
SG: Diallo
SF: Heron
PF: Jones
C: Chukwu
This is a starting lineup of players who played in CT. Throw in some other local kids, and...

Carlton Bragg is going to New Mexico, Vance might have a team next year.

I feel you Dawkins getting that tech for your team for unfair officiating ... Ollie should see this !!!

Waters had 4 points on 1-7 shooting and 0 assists, 6 turnovers. Funny, no superjohn posts today.

He's still better than our own PG but yes, sometimes I think fans tend to note the transcendent performances and forget the not so great ones.

Makes me wonder if people on other boards note Adams' stellar nights so enviously.

Was thinking the same thing. Basketball is an easy game when your shot goes in. Getting smacked by Auburn maybe doesn't mean your coach sucks or your offensive scheme sucks (but it could).

What's your point? He had a terrible game. He'd still wipe the floor with any of our players, besides Adams. Still wish he was here.

Terrence Samuel went for 16 points 12 rebounds vs. Tulane.

Typical West Virginia team get out to a big lead in the first half .. then blow it in the 2nd smh .. now is that on the coach or the players

Nebraska is in a weird place. Usually fourth in the B1G would almost be a guaranteed bid. But their schedule is so weak (play other top 4 teams only once) that they are clearly on the outside looking in right now.

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin - Game Summary - January 29, 2018 - ESPN

Trailing by double digits in the second half, Nebraska seemed on the verge of a resume-crushing loss to a struggling Wisconsin team.

But a switch to a 1-3-1 zone on the defensive end and a scrapping of their sets for a spread-motion offense allowed the Cornhuskers to pull off an important comeback win.

James Palmer Jr. scored 28 points and keyed the second-half comeback, as Nebraska rallied for a 74-63 victory on Monday night.

"Those last 10 minutes, when you are playing four games in eight days, three on the road, that's pretty good fight out of your team to see them come out of here with a W," Nebraska coach Tim Miles said.

The Cornhuskers trailed by 11 points midway through the second half but held the Badgers to just eight points over the final nine minutes to extend their winning streak to three games.

A spinning, one-handed dunk by Khalil Iverson gave Wisconsin a 55-44 advantage, but the Cornhuskers answered with 10 straight points to pull within 55-54 with 7:28 to play and continued rolling.

Keying the comeback for Nebraska was a zone that had Wisconsin flummoxed.

"We decided to be more aggressive with it, pick up full and trap a little bit just to try and change the momentum of the game," Miles said. "Both of those things kind of worked hand in hand and you could just see our guys growing in confidence."

Palmer scored 16 points during a 30-8 Nebraska run to close the game, including a layup that gave the Cornhuskers their first lead of the second half with 4:35 remaining.

How did Tremont Waters of Connecticut end up at LSU? An alligator dish may have helped

"We turned the page on our program tonight," Wade said after the win over Michigan. "Helps having a point guard like him. He's got the keys to the car."

"Our pitch to Trey was, 'We need a point guard,'" Wade said this week. "I told him, 'If you want to do something special, come to a place where you can turn around a program that hasn't been winning.'"

"This guy came into the picture," he said laughing. "I knew who he was. I knew he coached at Chattanooga and at VCU. But other than that, no. I just knew he was a guru of basketball and knew what he was doing."

But more important than that, Wade reminded Waters of something very close to home. In fact, in his home.

"He reminded me of my father," Waters said.

That would be Edward Waters, who controls the keys to the cars and taught his son, who is one of six boys, a valuable lesson.

"He forces you to be accountable," Waters said of dad and his new coach. "He makes sure everything is all right, set in place for you. And just overall, he just reminds me of my dad. That's why I really came here."

Ya, but it does not negate the fact that a lot of kids just want to see new places, go somewhere different, get away from their hometown, meet new people, etc.

EDIT: Did anyone see unc go down again? 3 losses in a row. 99% sure they beat Pitt but I think for ONCE in my life, I will be cheering for Duke to make it 4 losses in 5 games and maybe knock unc out of the top 25 and hopefully beat unc. Because, again, assuming they beat pitt that would leave unc at 17-8 and 6-6 in conference with a tough road game vs NC st. who already beat UNC at home.

Cyril Langevine goes for 18 rebs and 12 pts @ VCU in 13 pt URI win.

CL a sleeping giant on the boards. If this kids wakes up URI could really contend for the 2nd weekend or more. The kid may be developing at the right time.
