Cochran set to join UConn's QB competition

I think Whitmer is a very good QB and I will be surprised if anyone beats him out this fall. That said, if CC or anyone else can to that, great! We need a solid back-up too.

If CW gets beat out for the starting job, we'll be in great shape. If CW is our starter and we see marginal improvement in his decision-making along with improved blocking by the oline, the offense will be better. This is the best situation we've been in with starting QB's, period since DO left. And we all know what was behind DO on the depth chart.

"At the other end, Casey Cochran was still tossing one football after another. Some of his spirals connected with his receiver, others sailed high."

"On Monday and Tuesday, Cochran threw some interceptions and at times forced the ball into tight spaces. Pasqualoni said quarterbacks can eventually convert those types of passes with experience, but it's also part of the decision-making process and Cochran's age is a factor."

These two passages make me think that Cochran is a distant second in the QB race. If he is throwing off target without pressure, what happens when the bullets fly for real? Coach Pasqualoni cannot afford to have Cochran learn on the job. There is too much at stake for him and the Program this year.

At first, I thought that that earlier quote of Pasqualoni re cochran being in the best shape of his life was a throw away line. But then this:

"He's got his weight back down under control. "

I kind of wonder why a 19 year old BCS QB is not in the best shape of his life come every waking day. Breaking your wrist is even more of an excuse to be in great shape. You can still stationary, run, swim.

If I'm Lagow or Boyle, I'd feed off of this stuff.
