Agreed, my friend. To reach true success (imo 20+ wins/season,double-digit conference wins, making the big dance most years, sometimes reaching the sweet 16) requires consistency in coaching and recruiting. A good coach can only do so much without top 100 talent. I think ASU has a good coach but this season they are 5-9 in conference (9th) ?! A new coach coming in to the Pac-12 , even with a solid freshmen recruiting class can't be expected to do better than 20-10, 9-9 by the time they're seniors in 4 years and that kind of freshman recruiting class is highly unlikely first year for a number of reasons. Even then, that class would need to be followed up with more good recruiting classes to have continued success. If a team finishes 7th or 8th in the conference year after year is that good enough? In order for one school to rise another must fall. Will it be Stanford? Oregon? Arizona? Oregon State? UCLA? Arizona State? Not likely. There are some conferences where a new coach might break through (Big Ten and especially the Big12)but for most getting above 7th or 8th place in conference would be a real coaching feat!
