-good for wvu and tcu. just imagine what the big east would have been this year.
-seems like ppl are aware of some nbe teams being good but not enough of them want them to be the media yet. i think we will see several hit the top 25 early in the year.
-surprised about cincy a bit but they are very well respected based off there last 5 years of football.
-ncst will be a quality game that could really make or break the season so early if we were to make a deep run at a bcs bowl.
-1 nbe member ranked and 6 in the 25-25 range. all it takes is 1 or 2 the next 2 years to make some noise and the acc will get a media beating.
-today has been the most fun day on this board talking football in a while....

I don't really see that. ACC has 3 in the top 25 and 3 also receiving votes. If they maintain that, NBE success won't necessarily imply ACC weakness.

Of course, after UConn crushes Florida State in the Orange Bowl, hopefully the ACC will get a beating.

we will be so good that we will crush fl state in the 1st qtr, clemson in the 2nd qtr, duke at halftime, miami in the 3rd qtr then finish off va tech to end the game

Will be interesting to see what happens in the NC State / Tennessee game given both are in the "Other Receiving Votes" category. We're obviously rooting for a NC State win followed by a loss to UConn - that would be the best scenario by far.

if they maintain. does the ACC ever maintain their preseason rankings? by the end of the year it'll be just VTech and they'll be in the low 20s after losing their bowl game. that's how pretty much every other year happens so why expect different now? seeing this list is actually pretty disappointing to me b/c i just now realized we don't play a single ranked team as of today.

And Forte's post about UConn hurting the BE will come true!

Yes, but we play 5 teams in the top 42, so if we go 9-3 or better we should be ranked.

If Florida State doesnt have a good year they should fire everyone. There is no reason in the world for them to not bury most of their league with those players.

I know some of the big east coaches announced their picks last year, any one know if P or one the other voters will?

If you count "others receiving votes" I see 7 future Big East teams on this list and 6 ACC teams.

So they see UCF as better than us right now. Lord help us. These polls are usually right.

.-.
So no Miami, BCU, Pitt or Cuse on this list?

What the hell did Fla State do to deserve to be number 7?

They probably have 6-7 first round picks on defense? What exactly can 'one do' for a preseason poll? It's guessing at who will be good.

Who is they? UCF got 5 votes. That could be one pollster that has them 21st. Spurrier used to put Duke in the preseason top 25 every year.

The coaches poll is one of the dumber things in all of sports. It wouldn't be so bad if they used this for entertainment purposes only. But the fact that these coaches' votes help determine BCS rankings is one of the all time head scratchers for a multitude of reasons.

That being said, I think you can lock up USC vs. the SEC survivor in Miami.

Does anyone get the sense that if WVU was still in the BE this year they'd be ranked closer to 20th? Or is my tin foil hat a little too tight?

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's funny how that works with the polls, huh?

I don't think so. After the beat down they put on Clemson, keeping most of their important skill players and the fact that they are now in Year 2 of Holgerson's "system" would probably have put them in a similar place in the Big East. People would have complained about their Strength of Schedule though, I'm sure.

The WVU beatdown of Clemson is now percieved as a Big 12 beatdown and legit. If WVU was still in BE it would be considered a fluke so the pollsters would have them 20-25.

Everyone can have their opinion and it is all supposition anyways, but I think the reality is that WVU was a steadily improving team last year which was capped off by destroying a Clemson squad that had a pretty good year. Maybe they would be in the mid teens instead of where they are now if they were still in the Big East but I just don't see anyone ranking them in the 20's regardless of the league they were in.

There is no doubt that Big East teams in the past few years have had problems getting pre-season ranked but the past few years it has been somewhat justified, don't you think? Based on the record from the prior year, recruiting classes brought in, players that departed and coaching changes, I wouldn't say with a certainty that for the past two years any Big East team really deserved to be highly ranked in the pre-season. Can anyone think of one?

Regardless, pre-season rankings are BS and the thing that really kind of sucks is that they have an influence on the end of year rankings and bowls (due to the whole leapfrog thing).

No it wouldn't. WVU returns a ton of players and are coming off a drubbing of Clemson. They would be ranked the same if they were in the BE

This drives me nuts... the other thing that would always kill me was to watch the other conference coaches pump up their own conference... and then watch Big East coaches vote Big East teams down! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
