Coach Auriemma Extending Praise to Syracuse/Q

What Geno meant, "Yeah, he may be a jerk but they are at the Final Four. When we had Maya Moore he tried to wrestle with us because he couldn't compete and he wouldn't schedule Stewie for a homecoming. That's his right but it was pretty selfish". At this point, you don't poke the bear and give them bulletin board material so he has to say what a great job Hillsman has done. He has a chip on his shoulder the size of Montana though.

Q is the male Mulkey of WCBB sideline antics (and he walks on the court all the time and gets away with it).

Couple of things:
1. The list of coaches that have refused to schedule Uconn is quite long. Hillman owed Breanna absolutely nothing, and to hold his decision up as a proof of why he is a terrible person is silly. Colgate turned into a party atmosphere and everyone had a great time, however many people showed up to the Syracuse barn it would have felt empty and felt like just another game with tepid fan support.

2. There was one little episode a long time ago between the two teams, not unlike the episode with CViv and Rutgers a long time ago. Geno sure doesn't seem bitter about it, not sure why the rest of us are carrying this big grudge. Stuff happens that everyone regrets in the heat of competition, it may reverberate for a while, but it really should be allowed to dissipate. If you really still feel bitter about it, then the last thing anyone should have wanted was a game at Syracuse, but it seems we still hate them, and then hate them more for not scheduling us?!:eek: Not very consistent.

Coach Q amuses me. He's the best. One might think he has Tourette's, but he's just quirky. I remember on Maya's senior night, the Uconn student section was yelling to a Syracuse player "fix your shorts, fix your shorts" while she was taking FTs. Q was covering his mouth retrying to hide his laughter on the sidelines. I've always liked him more after that.

Scheduling a game with us for Stewie would have made him seem less like a jerk. Those 2 points you bring up have so far defined Hillsman's character for me. What else do I have to go on? That he is successful? Bill Belichick is successful but the biggest jerk in the NFL.

Remember, "Vendetta" is an Italian word...

I'm happy for Coach Q... plus he has a local talent coming in next year, Capital Prep's Desiree Elmore!

his swag is very refreshing... I enjoyed watching him and Geno chatting it up at the BETs @ the XL Center.

BTW I like Mulkey's antics too... fight for their teams

Pretty much no team in Georgia would schedule us for Maya, UCLA and USC wouldn't schedule us for KML so we went to UC Davis, can't remember who all wouldn't schedule us for DT, the list is endless of people who wouldn't give the local star a home coming game.
On the other hand, the list of coaches who have revived D1 teams and gotten them to a FF is pretty small and the more good coaches in WCBB the better. Q has some personality as well, which also doesn't hurt, and maybe, just maybe, some of the Syracuse community will pay a little more attention and actually attend some games when the women play. Every little bit helps grow the game.
