Sources: USC blocking Kingsbury from NFL talks

Kingsbury may end up regretting the decision to jump right over to USC and not waiting a few weeks after he was terminated by Texas Tech. He is being blocked from interviewing for better jobs, and he is now tied to Helton, who will start 2019 on about as hot a seat as any college HC in the country. If USC faceplants, Kingsbury could be fishing for mid-major OC jobs a year from now.

I could actually see the Jets hiring him after his uninspiring teams at TT. It would be par for the course with them. Not a very good look though for USC. They should have kept Coach O!

USC and Helton's success or lack thereof will not hurt Kingsbury's job prospects, provided the offense is humming.

Side note. It is unbelievable how much the NFL is a copycat league. McVeigh is successful so let's hire a young guy who flamed out at Texas Tech. DeFilippo was the hottest HC candidate right up until the point he was axed midseason.

... let's hire a young guy who flamed out at Texas Tech.
Flamed out is one way to view Kingsbury's Red Raiders' tenure, but he's just another in a string of not so overly successful coaches in a relatively challenging destination to recruit. Never been to Lubbock? Advantage: College Station, Norman, Austin ...

Other than Mike Leach winning about 65% of Texas Tech games he coached a decade to 2 decades ago, when's the last time a Red Raiders' coach was extremely successful? Almost never, but pre-Leach you'd need to go back several decades to another TTU coach with more than a year or so tenure over .500. Tough destination!

Whether Kingsbury can actually succeed in the NFL is a reasonable topic. T.B.D.!

Instead of wishing someone well in their future endeavors, the phrase should read "I wish you a Kliff."

I dont understand the hire as his results (besides offensive stats) are not good (actually pretty bad) but good for him.

#FakeNews

After the BS USC tried to pull, he made the right move. Nothing jerk-like about it.

To accept a job, recruit and quit 15 minutes later? Yeah what USC did was bush - but it’s b.s.

Quin Snyder has been moderately successful in the NBA, and he was a terrible college Head Coach, so who knows how Kingsbury will do?

Did USC ultimately let him interview, or did he buy himself out of the contract and start interviewing?

The NFL head coach hirings have been interesting. The old guard hiring through long established "coaching trees" has seemingly been ditched. The two most recent hires are a fired college coach (Kingsbury) and a barely over .500 OC with 1 year of calling plays (LaFleur in Green Bay). The old days had coaches being hired and cleaning house to bring in whole new staffs. Neither Kingsbury or LaFleur have the coattails to bring in a full NFL staff even on the offensive side, let alone a DC and staff. GMs are apparently gambling more on offense and a system rather than a true Head coach that delegates authority.
