Outlow is ranked more on his performances at camps and combines then actual production. He's been bitten by the injury bug, at some point, the last two seasons. He missed most of his sophomore season and was a non-factor in the State Championship game last year after being injured on the second play of the game. 40-times, agility/quickness drills, and 7v7 shells without pads (or contact) are great but, at some point, in-game production has to be a major factor when ranking kids. Outlow is an outstanding athlete, I'm just not totally sold on him be in the best CT RB in this class. I think UConn did very well in landing commits from Newsome and McAllister. Both are productive on the field and can be threats in the passing game out of the backfield. I also think Cooper will be special at the next level. I really like his build and straight-line speed. I would love to bring him in with this class too, as a KR/PR/RB/ATH. Although, I like Philips' shiftiness, he's not a burner and will likely play in the slot at the next level.
Here's a statistical career comparison of the 2014 CT RBs: (All 5 players saw varsity action as sophomores)
- Marcus Outlow -- 1989 all-purpose yds -- 1686 rush yds -- 303 rec yds -- 70 rushing yds/g -- 31 total TDs -- 200+ yd games (0)
- Arkeel Newsome** -- 7585 all-purpose yds -- 6818 rush yds -- 493 rec yds -- 170 rushing yds/g -- 119 total TDs -- 200+ yd games (16)
- Harold Cooper -- 5431 all-purpose yds -- 4950 rush yds -- 405 rec yds -- 146 rushing yds/g -- 74 total TDs -- 200+ yd games (8)
- Ervin Philips -- 1756 all-purpose yds -- 1176 rush yds -- 466 rec yds -- 84 rushing yds/g -- 29 total TDs -- 200+ yd games (0)
- Brice McAllister -- 2923 all-purpose yds -- 1821 rush yds -- 650 rec yds -- 107 rushing yds/g -- 30 total TDs -- 200+ yd games (5)
