It seems like Cinci just does things right when it comes to football. Every year they play popular names OOC, their stadium holds just over 30k but looks big time on tv... Fans all wear red or black. They run an appealing offensive scheme.. Are always solid on D. As far as success they're always near the top of the league and have been to two BCS bowls. They have gone through QB's coaching changes and they are still in contention year in and out. They just do things right.

They have three great hires in a row Dantonio, Kelly and Jones. They know exactly what they are and they embrace it.

Instead of hiring a caretaker, they hire a go getter and capitalize on it while they can. Then they go find another one.

Thats crazy talk. Don't go becoming one of those radicals.

The CT high school coaches would NEVER approve, and would keep us from the best kids.

A lot of the OP points are related to the AD. We had an awful one in the past and the current one hasn't shown us anything yet.

Ohio, especially the Cincinnati area is loaded with football talent. It looks like they have 23 players from Cincinnati alone on their roster. Thus, it's not hard to get a core group of solid players. Add in some Florida players and you have a solid team of players.

In addition, Cincy has done a good job of hiring coaches. Dantonio was DC at Ohio St. Kelly and Butch Jones were successful up and coming coaches that had success in the Midwest. Joining the Big East helped Cincy considerably as it gave them access to more money and the BCS.

Don't forget, Cincy has been playing Division 1 football for a long time, so they did have a core (although small) fan base before this recent success. UConn had almost no football fan base 10 years ago.

... And Uconn will have almost no football fan base 2 years from now (half the time it took to grow) if PP and GDL stay.

I can speak a little about this subject. My father in-law born and raised in Cincy and a Cincy Alumni always said UC was a sleeping giant and it was a matter of which team could move to a BCS conference first.

We all know if you’re from Ohio, all the elite talent would go to Ohio State. But Ohio is loaded with football talent especially in greater Cincinnati. There are usually 2-3 High schools ranked in the top 25 in the country (this year it’s Colerain. In the past it’ usually Saint X or Moeller. The issue was all the great left over talent that did not get selected by Ohio State was spread out among Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green, Ohio U, Toledo, Kent St, Akron or Cincinnati. Kids did not rally care if they were playing in Conference USA or MAC. The leagues at that time were pretty equal. When Cincy got the invited to the Big East it separated itself from the non BCS teams. In fact some kids that were getting recruited by Ohio State opted to go to Cincy so they could get a shot at playing all 4 years and not sit on the bench for 2 years. Cincinnati which also was located across the river from Kentucky was able to steal some recruits from UK and Ville

So with a talented football state with some of the best high school football in greater Cincy it’s an equation for a good team. And throw in some great coaches are your golden.

They have gotten better QB's than us or have developed them better, or both. That's been the difference between us and them. If we had their present QB in any of the past 5 or 6 years imagine where we would have been - not disparaging Whitmer because I think eventually he will be a good pick up.

Actually that's been the difference between us and the rest of the Big East.

Have said this before. I thought that Edsall never could develop a passing game - Achilles heel of the program.

Whitmer is a good QB and I am excited to have him. He has the skill and the cajones to help us move forward. We need a coaching staff that understands how to take advantage.

To quote Papa John's: "better ingredients, better pizza". They have had better ADs, coaches, coaching staff, players, administration, fans, players than us for quite some time. It all starts with an AD unafraid to challenge his program and take chances by scheduling tough, high profile OOC games and hiring progressive coaches who fit the current landscape of college football and play a brand of football that attracts recruits. It's unfair to pin this mess on Manuel, but the longer he takes to make a change and apply some pressure, the more criticism he deserves. It's unfortunate that we had an absolute baffoon like Jeff Hathaway as our AD but it's only been 1 1/2 years and not too late to get the program back on track.
