I feel CW has a pretty good shot at making AA..She's not going to make the top 5 of the AP poll..that's going to be 3 from last year Boston,Howard and Smith plus Clark which is a no brainer and that only leaves 1 spot open..who gets that ..Cunane probably maybe Hillman...So take these 6 I mentioned and that still leaves 4 spots open on the USBWA..you have Asley Jones probably maybe Kitley..Morrow and Siegrist? maybe maybe not..it's going to be really close for CW to make it but she definitely has a shot
IMHO Clarke should be the best player in the nation..yes Boston is the most dominate but Clarke did something no woman has ever done..lead the nation in scoring and assists in spite being doubled and sometimes even triple teamed..simply phenomenal what she's done...but the media has been pushing Boston since the season began..I doubt a healthy Paige would have won it again with the backing of the media Boston has

Sorry. Great kid, good player, streaky shooter, good defender... but... we got waxed when Paige was lost and she didn't come through like a lot of people hoped/expected. Can't blame her for the losses, but she'll lose out just the same.

Hmmmm........... pretty sure no one thought Megan Walker would be an AA. Ya just never know!

Christyn is playing well at the right time. The BE MOP award will help her AA credentials as will winning the the Ann Meyers Drysdale A

My Predictions for the other Positions Awards are
Katrina McClain (PF) NaLyssa Smith
Lisa Leslie (C) Aaliyah Boston
Nancy Lieberman (PG) Caitlin Clark
Cheryl Miller (SF) Rhyne Howard.

Boston and Clark are virtual locks to win.

I tend to think of "All American" as the 10 player WBCA team since five are very difficult to agree on and they vary based on who, but the ten player team tends to get the most deserving and leaves fewer out of the conversation. It will be difficult for the Huskies to get anyone on the 10 player team this go around without PB, even considering the team didn't do that badly during her absence. These are locks to me:

Boston
Clark
Smith
Howard
Hillmon
Cunane
Lee (61 point game is tough to ignore)
Jones

At this point there are 3 spots left and there are probably 5 to 10 who would make great cases. I wouldn't be upset if CW made it, I just don't know if it will happen.

Christyn could be anAA, but she also has a shot at
the Ann Meyer Drysdale 'Shooting Guard' award. If
nothing else .. I 'll settle for a NC.!
IMO, I like Caitlin Clark over Aliyah Boston. She was
tremendous last year, and superlative this year ( see the
offensive stats and rebounds, and assists!) Boston is
unique, but I think Clark and Cizano ( sp ) carry Iowa.
The next choice is E. Cunane who is also the main cog in the
North Carolina State wheelhouse. I wait to see who will
take their team furthest! Let the games continue.!

While I disagree about Williams (just too inconsistent, no dominant area of play) I do agree about the media & Boston! I doubt Clark even gets a sniff even though, imo she is at least equally deserving! We’ll see though, maybe they’ll surprise us and have co-players of the year.

I don't think Lee in fact one person I forgot who I'd put ahead of lee is Shakira Austin

I’ll go with your list, MSSportsGuy, and add Siegrist and Morrow from the Big East as definitely more deserving than Christyn, as well as Kitley, the ACC's POY. That makes 11.

At her best, CW is really impressive but she disappears too often. There have been quite a few games in which Christyn wasn't the best player from her own team, including during the stretch when Caroline carried the team, and then when Azzi took over.

Christyn has been amply recognized with the Big East tournament's MOP and the league's 1st team. Those are admirable accomplishments but 1st team All-American is a step too far for what she's brought to the court.

As Oldude said, the Huskies' minds should be on the NCAA tournament. Here's hoping Christyn plays like an All-American for the next three weeks. If she does, UConn might have another banner soon.

… as are Smith @ PF & Rhyne Howard @ SF, IMHO. AMD Award for SG only uncertainty, but I would give it Maddy Siegrist or Haley Jones well before Christyn Williams, among others.

Assuming Boston stays in school, Smith & Howard will also compete for the #1 overall pick in WNBA Draft.

The locks for the 10 player team
Boston
Jones
Clarke
Cunane
Smith
Hillmon
Joens
Howard

That leaves 2 up for grabs
I think Christyn will get one of the spots

Lee although a good player, the WBCA team has been recently comprised of players from ranked programs at the end of the year

Czinano? She’s averaging over 20 points a game but does not get any hype because of Clarke

Bell? She’s averaging over 20 points a game as well, albeit, against less than spectacular opponents

Reese? She’s having a solid year but Maryland has been underperforming all year

You really believe Christyn is more deserving than Maddy Siegrist? Aneesah Morrow? The Big East isn't a Power Five league, but Siegrist and Morrow just plain and simple well outperformed Christyn, and each as the focus of other teams' defenses, something that wasn't the case with CW.

Elizabeth Kitley is the ACC's player of the year... Christyn is more deserving? While we're at it, you brought up Bell and Reese, either of who could understandably grab a spot ahead of Christyn.

As for Czinano, she's Big Ten 1st team for a second straight year (shades of a current Huskies' player). That's some pretty good hype.

Your point about Lee might well be on the mark, yet her omission would be unfair to one of the country's top bigs... oh, well, I guess I should know by now these all-everything selections aren't about fairness.

There are a ton of players deserving of being an AA. Clark, Boston, Smith, Howard, Cunane, Kitley, Czinano, Hillmon, and Joens seem like locks (or should be locks) and I’d even throw Morrow as a legitimate contender for AA. Individual awards are nice recognition, but to loosely paraphrase (I think) Napheesa Collier, they should go win something you can’t vote on.

IMO locks are:
Clark, Boston, Smith, Howard, Hillmon and Joens.

Pointer should make a team but lacks media hype so we'll see if that pans out. Her, Ciznano, Haley Jones, Ayoka Lee, Cunane and Kitley are next tier.

Other notable players include Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, Shakira Austin, Jacy Sheldon, Taylor Mikesell, Shaylee Gonzales, Aneesah Morrow, Maddy Siegrist and Olivia Miles.

Williams has had a good finish to the year but her stats (15 points, 3 rebounds) and performances in big games are not AA caliber IMO.

No issues with those selections as AP AA awards. However, the WBCA tends to take into account these additional things which might lead to several different players being on a WBCA AA team vs AP AA team.: Positions, Seniors, P5 conference teams + UCONN and team rankings. If you consider positions Boston, Lee, Cunane and Kitley all play the center position and would occupy 4 of the 10 spots on an AA team=not likely If you consider seniors then Senior C. Williams might get the nod over junior Jones. BTW C. Williams is averaging more PPG than Haley Jones. If you consider the P5 conference teams + UCONN dimension then Morrow and Siegrist don't get as much credit/ consideration. If you consider the team ranking then Miles in not in consideration in any way shape or form but a player like Henderson from SC would get high consideration. BTW there is no way in hell that Olivia Miles of ND should be involved in this discussion and CW not be. Miles is probably ND's 4th or 5th best player and not even their best freshman.

There are tons of players you have not even mentioned. Pointer for LSU, Smith

These are just a few of the names that made first team in their conference that you did not mention. They all have had better or as good of a year as CW. Her chances are not as good as you may think. Maybe the UConn brand might give her that push, but I think her making it is slim: Hailey Jones, Cameron Brink, Angel Reese, Ayoki Lee, Kayla Pointer, Shakira Austin, D. Henderson, K. Smith, J. Horston, Jewel Spear, Emily Englester, Madi Williams

I’m not sure who’s going to win the Major awards but if they had on for Best Showmanship it would be Caitlyn Clark hands down. No one is more fun to watch

Sports Illustrated already announced their 15 All-Americans - no Christyn.

Christyn has significant competition. If you are a fan of women's college basketball, not just UCONN, then you know all of the following have a chance to beat out Christyn. There are 21 others from which to pick including two from the Big East, Maddy as Player of the Year and Morrow as Freshman of the Year. Morrow could have easily been Player of the Year. So if your conference thinks two players are better than you ... well?
  • NaLyssa Smith
  • Aliyah Boston
  • Rhyne Howard
  • Caitlin Clark
  • Haley Jones
  • Naz Hillmon
  • Elissa Cunane
  • Ashley Joens
  • Ashley Owusu
  • Shakira Austin
  • Diamond Miller
  • Cameron Brink
  • Zia Cooke
  • Hailey Van Lith
  • Kierstan Bell
  • Aneesah Morrow
  • Elizabeth Kitley
  • Khayla Pointer
  • Ayoka Lee
  • Maddy Siegrist
  • Veronica Burton
  • Christyn Williams

CW should make AA third team...Paige being out for 2 plus months made her center stage too often, instead of being on the receiving end of Paige's assists, and allowed team to guard her more closely.
