This was posted in February after Chong's 54 point game.

She shoots from the hip on her jumpers. She will need to bring that up to succeed in college as a consistant outside threat.

One that shows every point she scored in the game.
 
Great stuff. Some of her shots seemed to start higher (like at her chest), but her FT's definitely start from her waist. She will need to learn to get her shot off quicker. But here's what impressed me...

Slender, yes, but fearless in taking it to the basket and not afraid of contact. Really good court vision and good passing. Nice drives to the hoop, and can make a layup with both hands (how many kids can do that in high school??). And she's a kid who knows how to put the ball in the basket. I will say she does seem to fall down more than Tiff, and on far less contact. But, she's got some game for sure!
 
She has great potential and will thrive and grow in the Huskie System!

She has a quick release despite her bringing the ball low and I love how she plays defense immediately after a made basket. She has some talent for sure.
 
Her release is definitely lower than you'd like to see, but she has a couple of things to help offset this. One, she has a very good handle and a quick first step going either left or right. Most of the time in the video, this keeps the defender honest so they can't be right up in her grill all the time. (And while this is obviously not D1 competition, Murry Bergtraum is no slouch at the HS level.) This gives her some room to get the shot off. Two, despite the lower release, she keeps her dribble alive until just before the shot and shoots quickly. Sometimes when a player picks up their dribble and prepares to shoot, it's a longer process.

While I agree the coaches will probably try to adjust her release, I think the bigger key will be can she still get around defenders at the next level? If so, then she will still have some opportunities to get her 3-ball off despite the release because she knows how to read her defender. If they sag at all, she will have shooting opportunities. If they play tight she can go by.

Lastly it looks like she keeps her dribble alive a little longer than most guards even when penetrating. When she makes a jump pass, it's very quick and right off the dribble again - I don't see her jumping first and then looking/hoping to find a recipient while caught up in the air. She keeps herself a threat to go all the way to the hole until the very last second.

She's got a lot of great tools and will be exciting to watch at UCONN.
 
The key to watching any highlight video for any real type of evaluation is to look at the defense to see how far above the walk and chew gum level are the players from the other team are.

She keeps her head up while dribbling and finds open teammates.

Like MoJeff, she moves left and uses her left hand to dribble and shoot better as a high school player than Renee did as a college All-American.

She moves without the ball and is quick.

She has good shooting range. The release is low, but it is quick. Maria had no elevation and an average, though higher release. She compensated for it by setting up 3' outside the arc. Saniya, like Maria, can hit from that distance.

With Saniya on the court, we will not see the bench give up 15 points of a 40-point lead, be unwilling to shoot, or unable to score.

We are seeing Saniya is athletic<her vollyball ability is an additional indicator of this>! Milford's comments indicate she also has skills and talents that are going to
thrive under the tutilage of Shea! The talents of her teammates are going to benefit her! Her shooting range even with the release point is quick and #1 can be compensated for as stated #2 This is something that the staff can work with her on!

You can see the skills and talents she pocesses! This is a kid who will thrive under the UCONN System and Coaching. Defensively it is exciting to think what she can
continue to develop She will be pushed to do so. The bench is going to be of a level we have not been used to.

The comments by VA, one trick,Ozzie,and others give us further insight into the potential of Saniya on the next level;)

Looks to me that other than learning to play defense (which virtually all HS players need to do) the only thing we don't know is how she will play without the ball. ( And I am very happy she is a Husky)
