Congratulations, Glad she won...

Ogwumike received 774 points in nationwide voting that took place March 12-25, including the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament. Odyssey Sims of Baylor finished second with 761.

Breanna Stewart of national champion Connecticut was third at 732. Kayla McBride of Notre Dame finished fourth at 562, and Alyssa Thomas of Maryland was fifth at 509.

Good - I am happy for her. I thought the vote would get split between Sims, Chiney, and Stewart for the MOP awards - then Stewart got the first three to be announced, and I wondered if she was actually going to sweep them. Not unhappy at all that both Sims and Chiney collected one each.

Just curious, which one of the POY awards is recognized as THE POY trophy? Doris Burke said that the Wade Trophy is "the Heisman" of WCBB. All three (Wade, Wooden and Naismith) seem equally impressive to me.

I always thought the Wade was the biggest too. Anyway, glad Chiney won something - good for her!

Congrats to Chiney! As some of us thought would happen, the various POY awards were shared among 3 outstanding players.

Congratulations to a fine student-athlete. We may get to appreciate her up close if Anne Donovan drafts her on Monday night.

I am pretty sure that Donovan will go with Chiney. As a post player herself, Donovan has a great appreciation for good post play and I would hope has the ability to continue to develop this exceptional talent.

I would rather see Sims in Tulsa, but I am not so sure that Tulsa will not take Thomas as they drafted a PG last year and could possibly use more size on the wing.

Congrats to Chiney. Love her game and look forward to rooting for her wen she dons the yellow and red of the Sun.

ETT - I agree Tulsa probably should take Thomas. She's a true 3 and they already have Diggins and Goodrich, who as a freshman, already moved past Diggins into the starting lineup. Add in Cambage, Johnson, and Riquina Williams and I think they are a really solid team.

Not really sure that there is a clear hierarchy in those three awards, though I think they have separated themselves from the AP and WBCA awards - not sure why, but they have. I think the Wade may be the oldest of the three?

On the draft - I suspect there all of the lottery winners are entertaining any trade offers that come in - I do not think any one of the top selections have the 'franchise' talent present in some of the other senior classes - a Maya, Griner, EDD, Tina type of player. Chiney is the closest to that in this class, but if someone offered either a starter and the 5th pick or even a 5th and next years 1st round pick you would have to clearly consider it. And the difference between McBride, Sims, Thomas, Dolson, etc. is really as much about current team needs as it is about player comparisons. If some one really wants Sims and offers a 3-6 pick plus ____ to Tulsa, as a GM I would probably jump as long as the _____ wasn't chopped liver.
On Edit - by 'franchise talent' I really meant 'can't miss franchise talent' - as with HS recruiting there are surprises in every draft and really good players plateau, and less highly rated players bloom.

Really good with this award. Chiney has an impressive body of work and deserves the recognition. We can be sure Geno will not be repeating Tara's comments about Stewie's award.

Big ups to Chiney! She just seems like such a great young woman and great student-athlete all around. I'm sure she's been a joy to coach for Tara and the team won't be the same without her.

"The Hug" pretty much said it all ! She is a special person. She's not quite as skilled as her big sis was her senior season (IMHO) but I think she will be an amazing ambassador for the "W" and the team that chooses her, aside from being a great player with tons of upside.

Yes, congratulations to Chiney. I was expecting her to be in the awards and had become fearful it wasn't going to happen.

TDiNozzo has it about right. If she did not have that team around her she's just be another 6'4" player with a few moves. Totally ridiculous, rancorously envious nonsense of course. At the beginning of this season people where saying that she would go first in the WNBA draft, etc. Just plain stupid.
