Huge win tonight!

First, the most important update to the XL Center should be 250 urinals and 100 toilets (women) , it seems to be a huge disconnect between the folks making decisions and the average fans experience. It also demonstrate a business incompetence due to the opportunity cost, loss concession revenue.

Hurley still hasn’t moved on from Mahaney as a PG. we are up 20-10, he tries that failed experiment again and in a blink of an eye it’s 20-20. Again, he’s a good player, who is a shooting guard.

Not a lot of fouls called but the ones that were called were phantom calls from UCinn’s perspective.

Reed (double/double) and Diarra (double/double ) played well. Karaban also played good defense and used the various tools in his offensive toolbox to his advantage. Then mid/late in the second half, the 3 works.

Our 3 point defense was bad. Good 3 point shooters you need to play before they get the ball (deny the ball). We don’t do that with consistency this season. Their 3Fg% was twice ours. Let that sink in. Maddox is a 30% three point shooter who hit 5 today at 55%. And our defense at times was good on ball but before ball that’s the problem.

Ball led us in points and scored many big time baskets.

We led them in rebounds 32 to 19 and assists18 to 8 and 100% from the line. That is usually our formula to victory, but their 3’s kept them in the game. 63% to 33%. Or 15 points more.

McNealey delivered big foul shots late despite foul trouble himself.

Win is a win even if they were down their best player and took us to OT. We need to shoot the 3 a bit better. If we made just 1 more here and there we’d have a comfortable lead throughout. Need to get Nowell some PT!!

We were down good player in Johnson who would of helped our interiror and exterior D as people could play the shooters tighter knowing we have a shot blocker back there. Tarris Reed isn't quite as good defender even moving his feet he is slower than Johnson.

Defense needs to improve Chief, I agree. But Maddox was hitting tough 3s.

Those guards balled out. Give them credit. They made a bunch of tough shots look easy. I would love to have one of them on this roster.

Johnson’s loss was an impact. Singare played well again. Reed is developing.

Get more active in defense earlier in the set and those 3s don’t fall.

In Maui our Defense was bad inside and out. Now it’s just outside. That’s progress

Mahaney was not the problem. McNeeley getting his second foul is the reason we went into the drought and they no one hit a shot. You need to trust Dan Hurley on this.

Maddox is a career >40% 3 pt shooter, he shot 45% and 40% the last two seasons on high volume and is at 36% for this season while getting acclimated to a new team. Don't be surprised if he becomes a starter for them and is over 40% on the season. He is a good shooter.

Solution - blow out the urinals and put in a trough. Nothing says UConn fans unite like crossing streams.

They have 2 great shooters but they don’t shoot 54%, 40%. Tonight their team did.

I agree Maddox, who was a 30% 3 shooter, shot unconscious tonight. I thought our on ball defense on him became good but the next step after he went off is to deny him the ball. I agree, no reason why this would be in scouting report.

The stats I saw before tonight was 30% this season and 39.5% for career from 3, but keep in mind MAC and West Conference before this year.

Mahaney only played 3 minutes, not his fault we didn’t score for 7 minutes and blew that lead. The team either needs Mahaney or Nowell develop .. or Stewart/Ross to be able to play 2 guard spot. It’s not sustainable for Ball and Diarra play 70+ of the 80 guard minutes every game.

Translation: Chief had to wait in line to take a whizz.

30% was 9 for 30, with 5 for 9 tonight he's now at 36%. He'll be over 40% soon.

Diarra over the last four throwing 7-11's to the tune of a 36-7 Ast/TO is beautiful. We definitely need one of the other PG's to step up still, but you can win a championship with what Hass is doing.
Moving Diarra into the starting lineup saved the season but he really needs some backup

I just watched the replay of the game, and I paid extra attention when Mahaney was on the floor.
Score was 18-10 at 11:10 when Singare fouled Xaviers guard beyond the 3pt line. Mahaney was subbed in after the timeout. Play resumes after commercials, and Mahaney plays some good switch defense and is part of the shot clock violation we forced Xavier into. He then gets the ball inbounded to him and he dribbles his man up the floor with some pace and urgency (seems like he learned his lesson with the 10 sec call), and he makes a nice bounce pass to McNeeley that frees him up into a running floater that rims out, Singare grabs the O board and puts it in to make it 20-10. Singare shows again too much on the hedge and fails to get back to his man who sinks a easy mid-range fg, 20-12. Mahaney then dribbles up the floor again, with urgency and runs the offense, gets the ball back and passes the ball to McNeeley who gets hacked hard and a foul is called against Xavier. We inbound the ball, and McNeeley bricks a terrible looking 3pt shot, Mahaney never touched the ball on this possession. Stewart scraps for a loose ball after the rebound attempt, and off the inbounds, Ross misses a corner 3, and McNeeley gets his 2nd foul on a terrible undisciplined reach in. Score still 20-12 UConn, its Xavier ball, again we play some great defense and Xavier sinks a very tough 2 over Reed on the baseline. Mahaney quickly boxes out his man, just in case its off. Our next possession, Stewart drives in and misses a point blank layup that was defended well by Maddox. Maddox draws a foul from a drive on a 5v4 because Stewart was late getting back on D after the miss. Diarra is subbed in for Mahaney here at 8:17. At this point the score is 20-14. not 20-20.

I will say that Mahaney was the LEAST of UConn's problem in this segment of the game......
