Holding your opponent to 32% FG to 41%, outrebounding them by 5 and adding 9 more assists all are a recipe for a win.
What impressed me was guys step forward to be answers.
Smith step up with 14 points and 9 assists and Reibe had 8 points and 7 rebounds and was a definite prescence on the court. Those two guys along with Karaban carried us the second half when Ball and Demary cooled off. Karaban had 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Additionally, Alex did all the small things that turn into big victories.
Reed seem as if his injury was still hampering him and Mullins needs to get back in the flow after being sideline with his ankle injury.
Ball led us with 15 points but he was more of a factor in the first half. He tends to be streaky.
16k attended the game and the UConn fans were loud on TV. As with Boston’s BYU game a decent turnout and some challenges with a football game last week and a 12:30 start today, however the goal needs to be to sellout these games with UConn fans.
On to Kansas and a tough road environment but we are capable of beating anyone anywhere this year.

Tough to be that team when they're shooting 94% from the line. Even tougher to beat them decisively.

Illinois fans behind me blamed the loss on thethe court painting scheme.

Good sober assessment. Just last week people were saying Smith can't play at this level.
In actuality, Some people just can't post at this level. The BY is too much for them.

I like the old school court design better myself but to blame it for a loss - LOL

Chief you are always honest, jalen needs to give more. He is a mediocre 3 point shooter. When you are on fire away but today was not that day. He has 3 level skills and needs to show it

Malachi's combination of pace and control was very impressive. He showed at Dayton that when he is healthy he can defend and knows how to find people. Needed him with the Demary's 2nd half. Get the comps to Hassan, but Smith can score and has that reputation. He averaged around 18 as a frosh, I believe.

Wouldn't be surprised if Hurley asks Reed to just carve out some space and grab some rebounds against Kansas like today and then rests him for East Texas A&M.

Mullins is only going to get better.

Guys have to continue to move when Karaban does take it on himself to drive. He has great vision for a PF and is selfless enough to give it up to any open player. Had a really nice find to Ross when the team needed it.

Ball & Stewart were solid. Stewart didn't have a good shooting day, but he played tough defense and didn't have any 'gift' turnovers to Illinois.

Team show glimpses of what they can be. Just need to shoot it more consistently and as coach Calhoun used to say, "Step on the neck of the opponent." Can't give guys the chance to pull themselves off the mat. It could cost them. Still, it is a double digit win against a quality team with Reed far less than 100%, nothing from Demary in the 2nd half, Ball not shooting it great from outside and not a great day with the refs either.

Team will only get better with time and the chance to play together more. TV people were saying Illni had only a few practices together and will be better and so will U C O N N
Game is not official until Chief and his brief are read.
The Court is the stupid NBA Cup.

So solid for stewart is poor shooting and no stupid turnovers? Raise the bar

Cut that in half. He averaged 9 ppg as a freshman. The most he averaged in his 4 years at Dayton was 10.4 ppg last season. 10 ppg is nothing to sneeze at but he's never really been known as a scorer. More of a facilitator. You must be thinking of someone else.

Smith doesn't need to score double figures but we need him to make a contribution in the points column. A couple of buckets and a couple of fouls shots a game should be his minimum. Enough that the opponent has to take him seriously.

My wife walked through the living room while the game was on and remarked that the painting in the lane made her feel like she had to vomit. I explained that it was was a whimsical interpretation of a basketball net. She said it looked more like something an 8 year old would paint after being introduced to modern art.
