That blowout 27 point win, that we have all been waiting for, happened tonight. We needed that!

We did it by making 16 threes on 52% 3pt shooting while our opponent made 5 threes on 24% 3pt. That difference of 11 threes for 33 points was what won the game. We could spread the floor with our made threes well distributed by Mullins (4), Demary & Ball (3 a piece), and Karaban and Ross each hitting 2 threes. When we shoot like that we are very difficult to beat.

Foul shots and FT shooting % was a concern again. John Gaffney’s crew gave Creighton 24 foul shots to our 7 or 243% more foul shots than us. Making it worse we only made 3 for 43% much less than our FG% of 54%. Foul shouting is a concern.

We were well balanced tonight with 4 starters hitting 11-16 points and Reed at 8. Meanwhile, Stewart and Ross got it going again combining for 13 points. The five starters all had between 3-6 rebounds as we dominated the boards 36 to 24.

Demary had a Tristen Newton type game with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Impressed with how Mullins contributed after his concussion. He played 30 minutes and collected 16 points.

Definitley in the running for best overall performance of the year. I know its not a great Creighton team, but winning by almost 30 in that building is definitely a highlight. Great overall job by the team, outside of free throw shooting. Of the title teams, 04 was not great at the line compared to the other 5. Hopefully this team can improve by tourney time. Tarris in particular. Nice write up chief!

Pointing out FT shooting is a bit silly when we only took 7. If anything our inability to get to the line is a tad troubling. Tarris/Reibe missed 3 of our 4 FTs. Not sure why Reibe doesn't shoot it better.

Reed & Reibe are just overall weak FT shooters this year. It is what it is. Malachi is struggling, but he has the potential to “snap out of it” based on 3+ seasons of FT data. Thankfully, In most games, they take a small % of our overall FTs.

They took 3 of our 7 FTs and missed them all. Which is to be expected for 50% FT shooters.

Thanks,if this team can get Reed going, consistent multiple 3 shooters each game and better foul shooting (Reed all game and everyone else better late in games), we will be the team to beat. Barring injury Mullins will be sensational.

True, as I said last game Calhoun use to say it’s about whose going to the line. But without a consistent create off dribble penetrator our centers will be at the line as will Smith late in games. Reibe has the form and mechanics, just needs thousands of practice FTs and more of a routine on the line to relax him and get in rhythm.

In fairness, to @JustbrewitMan, I had already pointed out the 17 FT disadvantage. True, volume was light yesterday and the game was about us scoring 33 more points on threes. Yet, foul shooting is one part of the game that needs to be consistent when other stuff is going up or down. The shot itself we have 100% control over, our opponent 0%.

Routine and rhythm yes and neither player has it. They both pause and “think” prior to shooting. I’m no expert but maybe they need to watch Alex, 2 bounces and going right into the shot without stopping.

Don’t love Reibe’s FT mechanics. He has a pause at the top as he extends his arms up and ends up shooting it largely/entirely with a wrist flip. I like to see a smoother, continuous motion from the ball being at shoulder level to the release.

Tarris in particular needs to improve. Otherwise he is going to get the hack-a-Shaq treatment. Eric too, but I feel that Reed's free throws will be critical during the tournament.

But had we made ONE more FT, we'd have been over our average at 57%!

Almost a guarantee for hack a Shaq in close games at end, if leading

Did not know Reed’s FT% was 10% higher than Reibe.
Reed: 57%
Smith: 51%
Reibe: 47%
Ball and Karaban at 84%
Mullins and Demary at 80%
When Mullins settles down and gets volume of FT shots, he should be in at least mid 80’s.

Really impressed with Jalen and Jaden's bench contributions last night. I feel like Jalen is on the cusp of DeAndre Daniels-level automatic fadeaway jumpers. And Jaden's catch and shoot 3's were also absolute money. Imagine if they can consistently come off the bench and do that?

Not sure why Solo hesitates to drive to the rim so much. Feel like he can finish at an elite level if he can just commit to it.

Anyway, thanks as always for the write up, Chief! o7

When Stewart makes his shots it looks so natural to him. Why that doesn’t happen more I may have some theories but really no clue.
