The reason we lost games last year was not because we did not play defense aggressively enough, we lost because we committed too many foolish/unnecessary fouls. We got beat on the foul line last season. BC had a 30 to 11 foul shot advantage. We need to do better.

Unfortunately, Alex Karaban’s shot showed no improvement. Sure he’s a money player and hits some key shots on high volume and got rebounds. But, Alex misses when he’s off balance and leans forward or backwards. Too often he’s open but leaning. If he gathered himself, stabilizes his body and feet, he would consistently do much better. When he leans forward he hits the back of the rim. When he leans backwards he hits the front of the rim too often. This issue is compounded due to sometimes not having perfect backspin.

I think we need an expanded role for Stewart. He’s got the full package. Size, shooter, passer, runs well, shot blocker/rebounder and defense.

Mullins will be a great player but had early nerves tonight. He will not be a repeat of Mahaney. Mullins has one of the best looking shots in UConn history. He’s athletic too with great fundamentals.

Reibe will also do very well, but rushed his finish moves. He has a good touch and it will show soon. He’s also had improved his body this summer/early fall. That was my concern that it would take awhile for a young guy his height to do that. He looks way ahead of schedule. His footwork is good.

Looking forward to a balance Solo Ball. He will be good with a balance between drives and threes.

I was at the game. I think Reibe will be fine. Koroma did a nice job as a backup. I like Malachi's game. He was a menace on defense. Mullins had some nerves early on but he is going to be an asset to this team. Alex is Alex. He will get his points bc of high volume shooting. I liked Solo's penetration

Jaylin is very talented but he's a space cadet out there a lot of the time and is always getting burned on defense.

I think we need to give Jaylin Stewart a define role and hold him accountable. I think he has a high upside that he can fulfill this season. In my opinion, he was the third best player in the August 8th scrimmage.

It was an exhibition game by definition but it is a great opportunity to evaluate players and tendancies. We need to clean up our undisciplined fouling as Hurley stated in his interview.
I don't think you can evaluate players off the first exhibition game missing two starters. Last year Mahaney went for 17 and looked great in the first exhibition.

Most of what we did not do well can be attributed to early season glitters. Shooting will improve and with Reed in the game we will have an option inside to take off some of the pressure to score from the perimeter.
I watched the women’s game earlier -probably the best team in the country- and even they looked out of sorts for a while.
I was honestly just so happy to see a game. Feels like its been years since they played.

"Early season glitters" just might be the best description of these exhibition games I've ever heard! ;)

I was at the game. The contact you see in person vs. tv ,is unreal.
The plays we were running got us lots of good shots, they just didn't fall. '
Mullins is going to be great, foul trouble limited his playing time. His move to the basket with a dunk was impressive.
Reibe has a tendency to do a "dip" before he goes up, allowing the defense to catch up. He needs to work on that.

That "dip" is just where he gives his defender opportunity to climb on his back. Then he goes up for the shot and the foul.

Agree, it is fun to see basketball. Yes, even exhibition games. Reed is a special player, I would expect him to dominate this season, assuming he can stay out of early foul trouble.

100% with you - very little to take away from that one other than Smith looked the part and will be a key piece of the backcourt rotation. Now curious to see how Hurley plays him and Demary. The three point hoisting offense is not something I want to get used to.

There was so much uncalled contact. Very physical game. One really horrible travel call when our player got shoved right in front of me. It was funny as the guy in front of me must have yelled something I can't type here and the little blonde girl in front of him, maybe 7 years old, turned around with her mouth open stunned. Her mom was understanding.
